“Lovely little hotel with warm, welcoming staff”
Reviewed 15 August 2013

We really lucked out in our choice of this hotel. It's literally just a few blocks away from the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, and palace, on a pretty street with minimal vehicle traffic but lots of interesting shops and restaurants. The hotel itself is small but charming. Rooms are basic but clean and quiet with good AC. Meals are served at shaded tables outdoors in front of the hotel or in a nice garden room indoors. The English-speaking staff are very friendly and helpful, and are always glad to sit down for a casual chat about life in Istanbul, Turkish history, or good tourist itineraries. I'll certainly return there on my next visit.

We stayed in El Blanco at the end of July and it was a wonderful stay! The staff were extremely friendly and hospitable, dealing with a large crowd until the early hours of the morning, and went out of their way to help us with directions, things to see, translations (e.g. gluten free) and general information on Istanbul and Turkey. The rooms were large and clean with air-con, buffet breakfast was tasty and there is parking directly in front of the hotel. It's right in the middle of the old town, a 5 minute walk from the Blue Mosque and 10 minute walk from the Grand Bazaar. Would definitely return. VERY good value for money!

People who works at this hotel - are excellent! Also - very good breakfast (entertainment - many cats and kittens are playing while You eat). The location is excellent too - in the central part of Istanbul.

We stayed at El Blanco in July 2013 and it was great. The location was perfect and the staff at the hotel were great. Our luggage had gotten lost by the airline and they were very helpful in getting information and calling the airlines for us (since we don't speak Turkish). The food at the restaurant was very good and the room were good as well. I'd recommend this to any couple looking for a place to stay on a short trip to Istanbul.

I went to Istanbul about a month ago and it was my first time there. I chose to stay at this hotel given the good reviews I had read about it. When I arrived I was very pleased and would certainly recommend this place to friends and family. The location is perfect (few mins walk to Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque as well as all the other major attractions) and the staff were very friendly, helpful and spoke good English. There are a number of good restaurants and markets in the local area but if you do want to stay where there is more nightlife, clubs, etc, then the Taksim Square area is probably better for you.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights from 2nd - 5th June 2013. We were picked up from the Ataturk Airport by Effendi Travel shuttle. The room was spacious, however the bathroom smelled horrid at times. Apparently the water switched off on one of the days, but was back on a little while later.

Went to use the bathroom downstairs in the adjoining restaurant, however it took staff such a long time to get toilet paper! not the best service. Each night we came back from our adventures, we were asked if we stayed at the hotel. Surely a committing hotel would know who its customers are. Sami was great and very friendly though.

Location was brilliant. A 2 minute walk up was the Arista Bazaar which has lots of little shops. Past the shops was the square where the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia are. Therefore location couldn't have been better. In hindsight due to the slow and inattentiveness of the staff, we should have stayed at another hotel along the same strip of hotels. Plenty of restaurants and shops nearby too as well as a 10-15 minute to get towards the Bosphorus Sea.

Room Tip: Room was 204 which had the view of the sea from the back of the hotel.

My experience here has been great. The staff is friendly and helpful, they've gone above and beyond my expectations. It's a few minutes walk to the Ayasofia and blue mosque which was very convenient. Hotel is nice and spotless and the free breakfast was pretty good. Even better was the barbecue they had on my first day here. I would definitely recommend.
