Owner description: Built between 1609-1616, this impressive mosque has six minarets. Why is it called "Blue Mosque?" There are two stories: the first, more common one is that the interior is covered in Blue İznik tiles. The second is: Many years ago, ancient sailors who sailed by the mosque on the Marmara Sea saw the blue colors of the sea reflected in the mosque.

“Awesome Working Mosque”
Reviewed 3 September 2014

This is a very beautiful place. Remember it is a used mosque so be polite, cover your hair and take off your shoes. The carpet is awesome, bright and soft. The inside is stunning, has to be seen ! Great stained glass, high ceilings, lovely detailed work.

“AMAZING!! You get chills just viewing this historic place”
Reviewed 3 September 2014

No pictures can do this place justice. It is an amazing place to visit. The beauty, the history is awesome. While in Istanbul take time in you visit to spend at least 2 to 3 hours and wonder around this ancient mosque. The people that run it are so humble and delighted to have you view their place of worship. Remember that it is a "working" mosque and their are people there that are in prayer. It is just beautiful!!

“Best if with an organized tour”
Reviewed 3 September 2014

The Blue Mosque is an elegant structure and well worth the visit.
Note to all: Bare legs are not allowed so gents should wear long pants and ladies, either pants or a scarf to cover up. Also, ladies will need a head covering. Everyone will need to remove their shoes and bare feet are not allowed so be prepared to have socks to wear. (a lot of prepararation but well worth it.)

“A peaceful place :)”
Reviewed 3 September 2014

I'm so in love with this mosque, It was my first attraction to visit, the space, the fountains, the gardens, the trees, the mosque itself it was brilliant, so beautiful and vast and an outstanding structure !
I prayed Duhur and Aser there, it was nice to experience praying with Turkish people.
A must see attraction !!
and from experience, leave this for the end, as they say save the best for last. because it is so outstanding that you will not see a more beautiful mosque that you will think that they aren't good ones :P
