“Extraordinary museum, only wish we could see it all...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

This gorgeous museum is a must see stop, a once in a lifetime experience, the confluence of multiple religions in different times makes it extraordinary and unique - the only shame is that due to ongoing work, a large part of the church and its surroundings was inaccessible. You could spend a full day there.

“What a building!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

I have seen some great buildings ion my travels but this is by far the greatest, especially when you take into consideration when it was built. Istanbul is packed full with great architecture but this is the highlight of the city.

“Stunning”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2014

The Blue Mosque was built to outdo this wondrous monument...however, I personally don't think it succeeded! The Hagia Sophia (or Aya Sofia known locally) looks very understated from the outside, with trees and a dull wall obscuring most of the view. But do not be fooled. Once you step in, you are greeted by paintings dating back hundreds of years, of Jesus Christ and Roman royalties. However it is the main hall that will draw your breath away. The enormity of the place is astounding. The historical architecture is purely stunning, with the marble walls, the stainglass windows, the chandeliers, and the paintings dotted around the building. Walk to the apse and absorb the natural light beams bouncing off the walls. Take a walk upstairs to have a fantastic view from above.

An amazing must-see site. Would definitely go back again if given the chance!

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

This museum is so beautiful. I loved that the building used to be a church and then was converted to a mosque. A lot of Christian mosaics have been restored. I felt as though they had been respectful of both religions. There are beautiful gold Christian Mosaics and beautiful gold Islamic items. It has a mezzanine on the second floor with beautiful artwork. There was lots of beautiful artwork. The interior is cool and calm. Do not miss it!
