“A totally local experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2014

This mosque is not usually listed as one of the must-see mosques; however, if you are interested in seeing a more local and much revered place of worship, this is it. Eyub Sultan; also known as Eyub Ensari (Ayub Ansari) was the companion of the Prophet Mohammad, in whose home the Prophet had stayed when he left Mecca for Medina. According to some this is the 4th most sacred site for Muslims after Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem. Hazrat Eyub's tomb is in front of the mosque. One hardly sees tourists here but its an interesting place to people-watch.

“Local place”

This mosque maybe more popular than Blue Mosque for the local people. We saw many people waiting for visiting Saint Eyup's tomb in the inner court.

“A nice a quiet place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

Eyup Mosque is near Pierre Lotti caffe. We arrived by ferry from Eminonu. The mosque is near the ferry doc. The place itself is very impressive. We couldn't visit the mosque inside due to some renovations that were going on. We have visited Eyup sultan turbesi, where the people were waiting on line to pray. I think that at the time we were the only non Muslim people. It was very nice that they have dresses so women can enter and visit the tomb.
I know that this Mosque is one of the holiest place for Muslims and everything showed and felt like, this. I hope that next time to visit the mosque inside.
