Owner description: Besides its importance as the first Turkish museum, it remains one of the world's largest museums with over one million works. Opened to the public in 1891, it houses a collection of Greek, Roman and Byzantine artifacts.

The museum seems to be very good and with a very big collection, but half of it is closed for a construction. I payed 15 tl and the visit was very nice, just missed the opportunity to fully visit it.

Thank Sergio P

St Sophia's is fantastic, a definite must see. But beware of cheating taxi drivers. Taxi driver pulled a'switch' con on me, when I gave him a 50TL note he swithched it to a 5TL note, then said I did not give him enough. Turkey seems to be typical Arab culture, they think it is OK to rip people off!

A very interesting visit to the museums, which have plenty to offer. There are three buildings in total, each of which showcase many different artifacts from various ages. We spent half the day here and didn't make it to the third building, but I enjoyed everything we saw, as well as the cool air conditioning of the buildings on a hot day! The gardens are also very pretty and we enjoyed a tea and a (slightly stale) muffin in the shaded cafe outside.
