My husband and I wanted to spend a romantic weekend in Istanbul, in our home city and as the days were very limited, did not want to risk any disappointment and chose Hyatt Regency Istanbul as we were sure everything would be perfect in return of the high rates we were to pay. We could not have been more wrong: it's true, the location of the hotel is perfect, the view of Bosphorus (though only from a limited number of rooms) is mesmerizing, the room is spacious, the spa is excellent.... but all the rest is just deceiving.... Maybe if our expectations were not so high, we would not be so much deceived but they were, rightfully I guess.... First of all, there are only 2 restaurants in the hotel: one italian (closed on Sundays) and one open buffet, which serves a la carte if the hotel is half empty, which was our case. And if you're doomed to a la carte, it's just light sandwiches like lobby bar serving... The room service is extremely poor, in a country that can be easily defined as land of plenty for fruits, in september, as season fruits they can serve only apples and bananas. You have to pay 20 Euro per 24 hours of "cabled" Internet, no wireless in the rooms, nor anywhere else except for the lobby; the television set dates end of 1990's if not early 1990's. As for service, the personnel could really not care less for the well being of the clients, they really do not care at all... you have to call them several times to get something fixed in your room... Our experience was really a lousy one, I hope they will fix these problems soon....

We had such a wonderful time in Istanbul. I would highly recomend the hotel. There is no complaint about it. Service was excellent and breakfast worth trying. We would go back any time.

We had an excellent stay at th Hyatt Istanbul. Rooms were beautiful furnished and spotlessly clean. The staff were always attentive and cordial. All in all, a first class experience.

Good choice if you want modern comforts. Comfortable beds and big bathrooms. Good but very expensive restaurant - like all the hotel restaurants in Istanbul. Location isn't that great - have to walk across a dark park to Taksim. Can be a long taxi ride to the blue mosque area if there is traffic but the modern hotels tend to be in Taksim anyway. Not as atmospheric as the Bosphorus side hotels but the rates are lower.

I stayed for 6 nights at the Hyatt Regency, in general the hotel is good....

the location is good but not great, you still have to walk atleast 5-8 minutes to reach Taksim and Istiklal but for these areas you'll not find other 5 star hotel closer except the intercontinental which is only maybe 50 meters closer to Taksim and Istiklal.

The service is average or maybe even below average, the doormen mostly are there to open your car door or to ask if you need a taxi but other than that they will not offer to help you with your bags most of the time unless you tell them to do so!!!!!!

Also they have no dedicated concirge desk, so you have to find an empty space on the front desk with 1 of the staff there to get any information or help!!!

The main negative point about this hotel i think is the lack of Soundproof walls and windows!!! You can hear the rooms doors next to you and above you and below you when someone enters their room and closes the door, also you can hear most of the noise coming from the street....

The hotel has a great place for Breakfast near the pool which has plenty of space with nice views....

The in room dining menu is very good also...

Also the service from housekeeping and room service is very good, they attended to most of our requests very fast....

Before heading to Istanbul, you need to decide if you want to stay in Taksim (which is where the Hyatt Regency is) or in Sultanhamet, where most of the sights are. From the hotel, you need to walk 5 mins or so to Taksim station, take a funicular and then connect to a train to Sultanhamet. If you are there for a few days, it would make more sense to stay closer to the sights. We had friends that went, stayed near the sights, and walked everywhere, whereas we spent some time on public transport. The hotel is nice, no complaints. The staff aren't so helpful or knowledgeable, but it is an annoyance, more than anything, they are certainly not rude.

Because my travel partner is a Hyatt diamond member, we got upgraded to a suite and had access to the Regency Lounge as well as the breakfast place on the mezzanie level. Thus, I will leave out the price/value assessment from this review.

Location: Excellent. It is roughly 5-10 min walk from the front of the Hyatt to the start of Istiklal Cd, depending on the path you take (through Taksim Park is faster, though we were warn not to walk through the park late at night, and a little bit longer along the Cumhuriyet Cd). Another 7 min or so stroll will get you to Galatasaray school gate, provide you don't stop to smell the kebaps. Also about a 10 min walk downhill to the Kabatas tram stop (likewise, you can take the funicular from Taksim square down but I think it's a waste unless you have mobility issues). About a 10-15 min walk up to the Nisantasi area for high-end shopping (and see the Military Museum where you can watch the Janissary Band perform). It's about an hour walk to Ortokoy, but on a Sunday morning before the traffic hits it's a nice stroll and you get to walk pass Dolmabache and Ciragan palaces. It's really quite central, and if you have 4 days or more, I think Taksim area hotels in general are more convenient than Sultanahmet hotels, especially if you like late nights...

Service: Generally very good - professional, helpful, friendly. Although we were with a Turkish speaker, I don't imagine you would have a problem with communication. There's a young lady in the Regency Club who must be commended for exemplary services (and of course I forget her name). She was just very friendly and helpful during the check in process and always has a wonderful smile every time we see her.

Food: I suppose food always taste better free, but the breakfast buffet was excellent. Full Turkish breakfast (cheeses, olives, simits, pastirma, fresh fruits, yogurt, etc.) as well as an egg station for omelet and fried eggs. The pastries were very nice. The Regency lounge has water and soft drinks all day, as well as alcohol during between 6-8p.

Gym/Pool: Gym is clean, but basic in terms of equipment. There's a sauna and steam in the locker room which is free. It looks nice... The pool space is great. There's hardly anyone using it though. It looks just like the picture on the hotel's website.

Room: The standard is about 400 sqft, which is a very good size. If you are on the 9th floor and above, and if your room face the Bosphorus, then you'll get the amazing view. Otherwise, you'll see the city or the university right in front of the hotel. If having the Bosphorus view is important to you, be careful. The suite is large, probably around 700 sqft, much larger than I need but I won't complain. The bathroom with the separate shower stall is deluxe.

Overall, this is one of the nicer Hyatt Regency hotels. So if it's within your budget range and you don't expect Four Seasons lux, you'll be happy.
