I revisited this Istanbul institution recently for the first time since its refurbishment and was very agreeably surprised. I was fond of the old Divan but this is a considerable improvement. The rooms are spacious and well equipped, with good comfortable beds and an excellent shower/bathroom. Some things haven't changed, happily: the staff are as friendly and helpful as before. Several restaurants on offer (not sampled, alas, this time) and a new bar with excellent service and a good selection of Turkish wines.
All this luxury comes at a cost, however, and it is not the cheapest option in the areas around Taksim. It is, though, one of the best and sufficiently far away from the scrum at the top end of İstiklal Caddesi to be calm and peaceful at night.
One thing grates, though. There is no free WiFi service and the service offered is, at Euros 15 a day, excessively costly. As a business visitor I find this very annoying and rather mean, considering the room rates, and out of keeping with the general generosity of the place.
In summary an excellent and welcoming hotel for a relaxed stay in Istanbul.More
