A few days in Istanbul on business. Hotel located a short walk from Taksim square (the commercial epicenter of the city) but very far from the Sultanhamet (the historic epicenter of the city).

Very clean. Very professional staff. Extremely comfortable beds. Definitely recommend for business but if you are travelling to Istanbul to see the sights I would recommend staying down in the Sultanhamet area.

Istanbul is one of my favorite places to visit. There are a lot of things to do there. In our last trip we stayed at Hilton Istanbul. It is indeed an old hotel but the hotel is well kept. The location is perfect as it is walking distance from Istiklal Street and the view of the Bosphorus is just breath taking. We have tried their restaurant (the main one) for breakfast and dinner and they have wild selection of delicious food.

We stayed at the Hilton on a points reward for a week. I stayed with my two teenage daughters. We had a king bed with a roll away bed in the room and still had plenty of room. We had access to the executive lounge. The service at the hotel and in the lounge was excellent. We stayed in a corner room and it was beautiful with a view of the Bosphorus and plenty of light. The furnishings were up to date and I saw nothing dated about the hotel at all. The lobby is quite beautiful with many areas for sitting and relaxing.

Our room on the 3rd floor was facing the nightclub that others have written about. We did here the bass coming from the club beginning around 10 or so, but with the TV or radio on we didn't notice. None of us had trouble falling asleep to the "music" at the club, but I could see that others might. If that might be you, request a room facing the front of the hotel.

The Executive Lounge is on the 9th floor and has wonderful views. We were there every evening around 8 for hors d'oeuvres and a glass of wine. Free alcohol and soft drinks are available all day. and evening.

Public transportation is a 10 minute walk away in Taksim Square.

The best things about this hotel are its views across the Bosphorus ( I memorably called home to Canada to say I was staring at Asia), and its easy access to the great 3km pedestrian only Istiklal Avenue--in nearby Beyoglu district--that leads to Taksim Square. The rooms were especially well appointed and I lucked out by getting a room with a view indeed. Unfortunately, there was a dance in an adjacent complex that was so incredibly loud I was kept up most of my first night. I was quite impressed that the hotel proactively acknowledged the terrible inconvenience and they made us a concilliatory offer to smooth our ruffled feathers. This was a classy move on their part. This is a Hilton so it's pretty standard Hilton experience buoyed by the wonderful hospitality and grace of the Turkish people who run and staff this property.

Room Tip: Beg for a Bosphorus view!

Stayed at the Hilton Istanbul in February 2012 on a weekend trip to Istanbul - overall, a great trip. Took the Havatas/Havas airport shuttle from Ataturk airport and arrived at Taksim Square. The hotel is a short 10 minute walk from Taksim.

Checked in upstairs at the Executive Lounge - Dogan was a great concierge- explaining the different services and amenities available to guests and also granting me a late checkout. I was also greeted by Kai, the Front Office Manager, which was a nice touch.

Dogan assigned me a room in the 8th floor with a balcony overlooking the Bosphorus River - bathroom had the Peter Roth toiletries. Also, had a welcome gift of fresh fruits and mineral water in my room - pleasant surprise after a long flight. The room is not so modern, but very nicely appointed and well maintained.

Restaurants:
Breakfast in the Bosphorus Terrace restaurant was very good as well - had lots of choices on the self service buffet (sauteed veggies and mushrooms, scrambled eggs, savory pastries, hard boiled eggs, different types of sausage - veal/chicken/etc). Also, you could order waffles, pancakes and omelets made to order. I didn't partake in the waffles/pancakes/omelets as I had plenty to eat from the buffet.

For dinner, there are a Lebanese and Chinese restaurants on site, but I opted for some street food fare in Taksim Square (doner kebap), so did not partake in the onsite restaurants as I wanted something quick. The German travelers I met in the Executive Lounge did have dinner in the Lebanese restaurant and commented on how excellent the food was and recommended that I try it on a subsequent day. I ended up not being able to, due the short duration of my trip.

Executive Lounge:
The Executive Lounge was a great place to start the day or unwind after a day of sightseeing. Breakfast in the Lounge is similar to the restaurant, but slightly less choices - the tradeoff is the ambience/quietness of the Lounge, whereas the restaurant is more busy. I opted for breakfast in the restaurant as I enjoyed the choices of juices and different meats, whereas the lounge had similar offerings, but 1-2 less to choose from for each category. The Executive Lounge also had afternoon tea service (with pastries and mini-sandwiches) from 3:00- 6:00 PM and Evening hors d'oevres from 6:30-8:30 PM. Evening hors d'oevres included finger foods and appetizers as well as beer and cocktails. Great place to hang out too - since I was traveling alone, I got to make friends with a few travelers from Germany, as well as other Americans. We shared tips on what to see and do in Istanbul - over beer and wine.

Fitness Center/Sauna/Steam Room/Hamam:
Other facilties included sauna, steam room, Turkish bath/hamam and fitness center. The fitness center is well equipped with treadmills, dumbbells and weight machines. There is a trainer available when the fitness center is staffed to assist with spotting if needed. Fitness Center is open 24 hours and you can access with your room key. The sauna/steam room/hamam are very clean and a great way to relax after all the walking you'll do in touring Istanbul. The hamam is in the men's locker room - open for women in the morning hours and men in the afternoon/evening hours.

Overall, it was a great stay and first visit to Istanbul - the staff, facilities at the Hilton Istanbul are top notch - and with the convenient location, I would return in a heartbeat.

It was wonderful experience during stay at Hilton Istanbul which is very close to Taksim (well located area). Helpful staff, amazing room with Bosphorus view.
Breakfast choices are very rich both in the lounge and the main restaurant. They have the best restaurants of the city in house.
Not so modern but with amazing history!
