“Exceptional experience”
Reviewed 17 June 2009

My wife and I spent 5 nights at the Hilton Istanbul at the end of May/early June. We booked a room on one of the executive floors with a view of the Bosporus. The room and the bathroom were large, comfortable and well appointed. The balcony was huge and completely private. While we were very pleased with the accommodations, what made our stay exceptional was the executive club. The facility is very large with plenty of seating capacity and views to the Bosporus and beyond to the Asian side of Istanbul. Four computer stations with printers are available at one end of the club. Breakfast is excellent with many choices and variety including eggs and other hot items. And if you want anything special such as an omelet, the very accomodating staff will order it from the ground floor restaurant. In addition to breakfast, a variety of other food is served throughout the day as well as just about any drink including good quality beer and wine as well as other alcoholic beverages. The extra cost of the executive club is worth every penny.
I would also recommend the buffet dinner at the ground floor restaurant which offers a wide choice of excellent quality Turkish and continental food.
In summary, a stay at the Hilton Istanbul with executive club access provided an exceptional experience.

The location is good: in the middle of parklike grounds, very close
to Taksim Sq.
They have a nice outdoor (indoor as well) swimming pool area ( a big advantage during the hot summer days)...but Oh Boy!... those extra small bath towels
must be the original ones from the opening year of the hotel (1955).
The hotel has a lot of potential, but it is obviously badly managed.
The room standard is low. The bed quality and especially the bed linen is below average.
The standard of the club floor service
and the club lounge is low.
The standard of the (very limited) buffet breakfast, served in the club lounge is low...and when a plate in the buffet is empty, don't expect that it will be refilled in a long, long time.
There is simply no reason to pay any extra for staying at the club floor
(executive floor).
The cooking at the Roof Restaurant was only acceptable, nothing more.
Everything (except the location) is very mediocre in this hotel.
Such a pity, as the hotel has great possibilities.
Three points because of the location and the outdoor pool.
If You don't value the outdoor pool , go elsewhere!

Thank you very much for your feedback! We would like to inform you that your comments have been shared and we are working on improving upon the shortfalls mentioned. New pool towels have just arrived and the bed linen has recently been changed! The Executive Lounge generally receives great feedback with the extended Continental breakfast (a full buffet breakfast is available in the Bosphorus Terrace restaurant), unlimited drinks and snacks throughout the day. We hope to have the chance to welcome you back.
Sincerely,

Club level in this hotel is so spectacular, I keep going out of my way to return to Istanbul to enjoy it's fabulous experience. The huge club lounge is on the top floor offering spectacular view, good food and unlimited alcoholic drinks (including champagne) throughout the day. It's hard to pour yourself a drink at the self service buffet as the incredibly funny and friendly staff is always there to help you out and do whatever to make you feel special. I was staying here with a friend for 3 days and we hardly managed to leave the hotel property. The fantastic outdoor pool was back in business and this must be one of the best hotel pools in the world. Hilton Istanbul's signature is it's incredibly friendly and professional staff where-ever you go, from housekeeping and security to pool boys to hotel management. Rate's vary greatly throughout the year and seem to get very steep while getting closer to Summer, but I feel the hotel continues to offer value for money at almost any price. You won't regret your stay here.

I had been at Hilton Istanbul first week of May, it was my first visit to Istanbul with my husband and little baby (one year).

Location:
The best thing about this hotel is its location, which is in the heart of Taksim area. It is about 500 Meter walk to Istiqlal Street. All means of transportation are available you can walk to the subway, bus station, but I preferred the taxi and walking above all.

If you booked a Bosphorus view room, you will enjoy a dazzling view from your room balcony. The garden view rooms are also great

Check-In:
Staff at Hilton knows quite well their job, before we arrive to Istanbul we had an e-mail to inform us that the Taksim area might be closed at our arrival time and in such case we can go to Conrad until it’s open again.

Upon our arrival this was the scenario that happened, the taxi took us to Conrad and we stayed at Conrad for couple of hours at the executive lounge we enjoyed the view of the Bosphorus, after then a Taxi took us to Hilton (on their account).

We had our check in at the Executive floor reception; we had our room at the 8th floor, it was ok but not too clean for a baby as carpet seems not washed recently. Bathroom was good.

Service:
Let me reiterate staff there knows their job quite well. However, it happened that my baby had broken the glass of the side bed table (50Cm*50cm), the duty manager contacted us next day concerning this damage and we answered him that we don’t mind to be charged for it, who next day informed us that we will be charged by US$50 for this damage!

Food:
Breakfast was full of varieties but so repetitive, I got board after 3 days + I didn’t like the bread at all, their orange Juice is great, eggs tasted burned, my baby disliked all items on the breakfast buffet.

Room service menu is high priced, I brought a grilled chicken breast and spaghetti for my kid from room service menu at 47TL (about US$ 30)

I tried their lunch buffet once, it cost 70TL per person and the worst thing is it’s not up to this value – very poor in quality and variety.

Check/out:
We had our check out in few minutes

Overall, I won’t come back to this hotel – may be my next visit will be to intercontinental or swisshotel.

I stayed at the Istanbul Hilton for 2 nights in April on business and found it to be a generally good hotel with very good levels of service.
On the positive side, the rooms are nice and large, with roomy balconies, and I was lucky enough to have a Bosphorous view which was lovely. My room was spotlessly maintained throughout my stay, and was very comfortable indeed. They all have desks for you to work at should you need to.
The breakfast buffets in the restaurant were very good, some Hilton standards with the addition of some local favourites like Borek etc. Lots of fresh fruit and fruit salads, cheeses, breads, pastries, plus some hot choices such as bacon, eggs, veal sausages etc. The service in the restaurant is keen and helpful.
On some minor negatives, the bathrooms are looking just slighty dated and a little worn, but are kept clean by the very efficient housekeeping staff.
The hotel bar is a rather soulless place, with sky high prices (16 YTL or about £7-8 for a large beer) but that's Hilton for you, the staff can't change that. The service in here was just as pleasant and efficient as in other areas of the hotel.
One other minor point was that the pool was empty during my visit, but it was just outside the season.
On the whole this is a very good choice for the business traveller, and a fairly good choice for a holiday stay. Overall it scores highly for service and only loses points for the bar. I'd happily stay here again.
