My husband, adult daughter and I chose the Ritz because, compared to other luxury hotels in Istanbul, it offered comfortable, private accommodations for the 3 of us at a RELATIVELY reasonable price. Our suite was beautiful and extremely comfortable for all of us.The service was superb, and we were quite please with the location. The Ritz is an easy walk to the Dolambahce palace, and from there to the Bosphorus, and provides very easy access to Istanbul's excellent public transportation system . (Ask the concierge how to exit the hotel for easy access) There are always very inexpensive taxis available.

I was surprised when reading the previous negative review as we had an amazing week at the Ritz Carlton istanbul. We booked the cheapest room (with booking.com) which although hadn't a great view was to a very high standard indeed. The hotel isn't in a poor location as some have stated - it has an amazing view across to the Asia side and Taksim square with a vast amount of shops and restaurants is only a ten minute walk. There was a superb choice for breakfast and the most efficient and friendly staff we have ever encountered. They really could not have done more for you. The outdoor pool area was a bit windy at times but a nice place to chill out or top up your tan. It also had 2 jacuzzis and a bar. We really cannot fault the hotel apart from the over priced alcohol or afternoon tea but you simply head to Taksim square where you can eat and drink at a reasonable price. Definately worth staying here if you are planning a visit to Istanbul.

We had a family reunion in Istanbul. We thought we treat our family to the proclaimed luxury of Ritz-Carlton, how wrong we were. What we found was a terrible experience. The entire setup of this hotel is a complete rip-off (big bucks) in a 3rd world country. First of all, no breakfast as promised during reservation! Then we were told afternoon tea is complementary. After we had the first tea and cookies for four of us (thanks god others in our group didn't join us), we found out that we were stuck with a bill of 180 Turkish Lira (TL) (Equivalent to $130)!! Yes, and I am serious. We asked for transportation to town, and even though we knew Taxi was 12 TL, we were told, "Oh, but the best for you sir/mamdam..., we have a van for you for 120 Euro!! Seems like a LOT of corruption is going on at this hotel. We didn't stay there the entire week, and left after the second night. We could not use the indoor swimming pool, and take our 7 year old niece, instead they order us to use the outdoor pool at a temperature of over 90 degreed, and extreme wind.....yes, this location is always very windy too! We are very sorry that a well anticipated family reunion was turned into a nightmare.

On our last visit to Istanbul we chose the Four Seasons in Sultanhamet - a perfect location and a pretty amazing hotel. In selecting the RC, we might have been setting ourselves up for disappointment, for if truth were told, we wouldn't have chosen this for ourselves. Like a huge majority of the guests in the hotel that evening, we were joining a cruise ship the following day and the RC was the best of the hotels offered to us.

That cruise part could be a significant factor in choosing to stay here, because whilst we were there, the lobby was always busy with groups coming and going. If I were booking an independent stay in Istanbul, the RC would not feature on my list of preferences.

The style is conventional, somewhat old fashioned. The monograms are everywhere - never forget you are staying at the RC, not even when you take a tissue from the RC monogrammed box. The exterior is ultra modern skyscraper - quite at odds with the dark wood panelling inside. The hospitality is both generous and graciously offered - dishes of turkish delight abound, apple tea is offered in the lobby and nothing is too much trouble for the charming staff.

Service was first class and everything was spotless and beautifully maintained. Our room, though not decorated to our taste, was comfortable if a little full of large pieces of furniture. Staff were universally helpful and the buffet breakfast excellent. What lets the RC down primarily is the location.

Part of a commercial development on a traffic island, walking anywhere from the hotel is taxing. Walking to Taksim Square is not easy because of several busy road junctions to negotiate, high kerbstones and a lack of pedestrian crossings. We are agile and confident enough to deal with such situations normally and yet we still felt uncomfortable and apprehensive about crossing these roads, even though Taksim Square was only a fifteen minute walk away at most.

The heavy traffic meant that a morning visit to the old city was not really an option for us and we sought advice from the concierge. He recommended the Dolmabahce Palace, just a stone's throw from the hotel and more easily reached by means of a second elevator which offered access to the other side of the hotel and an easier pedestrian route to the Bosphorus. We spent a very enjoyable morning there and were glad we didn't attempt to go downtown at all.

Clearly, if it's a first visit to Istanbul, it would be disappointing not to see the main sights. The situation of the Ritz Carlton does not make that easy, for sure and however lovely the views from the sixteenth floor, whatever level of fantastic service you receive and however scrumptious the breakfast, sadly the RC is just in the wrong place.

We stayed here post-cruise and should have listened to a waiter on the ship who told us not to stay here. It is undoubtedly the worst located luxury hotel in Istanbul and perhaps the worst located city vacation hotel at which I ever stayed. It is isolated and has no services -- when you walk out of the hotel you must walk 1/2 mile uphill to Taksim or one mile downhill to the tram to get anywhere. The only tourist site it is anywhere near is Istakal Caddesi. Most of the other sites are on the other side of town.

The check-in service was poor. I waited several minutes until I got the attention of a front desk clerk who was busy filing papers. And perhaps It is ironic to complain about prices in a luxury hotel, but the price of the buffet breakfast and a beer or drink in the lounge are the highest I've see. There is no nearby competition, not a restaurant, bar or shop

That said, the hotel room was lovely and quite spacious with a great bathroom and lots of luggage space. There was a nice view of the Bosporous from this standard room.

As a tourist, you should avoid this hotel.

I stayed at the Ritz in Istanbul two times last year - both stays were incredible and I felt like I was a VIP. The service was outstanding, the hotel itself is beautiful with great views of the Bosphorus. I tried the spa, the gym and the pool at the hotel and found them in excellent shape (especially compared to some other upscale hotels in the city). The hotel is conveniently located close to the Taksim square, it has a great hair salon in the same building and even a movie theater with killer ultra modern seats that I haven't seen elsewhere. This is definitely my favorite hotel in Istanbul!

The only drawback is probably the fact fact that the drinks in the lobby area as well as the restaurant are on the expensive side. Otherwise, I think the hotel is a great value, especially compared to what Ritz hotels usually costs elsewhere.

My husband and I had a fantastic stay at the Ritz Carlton Istanbul. Our room was comfortable and well appointed. The service was positively top notch. Our only complaints are in the food and beverage/amenities department.... The bar was not open once during our entire stay, which was a huge disappointment. The food and beverages served outdoors in the "roof" restaurant were good, but extremely overpriced. And, the outdoor pool was not yet open (we traveled mid-May), as advertised online. I would stay in this hotel again, but if you are looking for a place to lounge by the pool and eat/drink all day, this might not be the best option. However, if you are looking for a quiet, elegant, comfortable room with incredible service, this is the place to stay!
