Boutique Saint Sophia Hotel
Ranked #41 of 1,159 Hotels in Istanbul
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 3 December 2013

This recently opened little hotel is just opposite the beautiful Aya Sophia, a very short walk from Topkapi and Blue Mosque. You can walk easily also to the Grand Bazar and other places in Sultanahmed. So if you come to Istanbul for sightsseing, you can hardly find a better starting point.
Being opened in 2013, the hotel is certainly modern and elegant.
The "grand de luxe room" on 4th floor was large, darkish, with a small terrace with two chairs, facing entrance to Aya Sophia. The bathroom was very nice and big, but without a bathtub.
Breakfast is served in the lobby - a Turkish/continental breakfast with a nice selection of cheese, olives, honey, cake. The deserts were different every day. The service was very friendly - not only at breakfast.
The hotel has free WIFI and it worked perfectly.
If you want to stay close to the main sights in the Old Town and are not worried about the price, go for this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Aya Sophia are quieter

We had the privilege of being one of the first guests to stay at the Boutique St. Sophia in early October, and can't say enough good things. From my first interactions with the sweet and welcoming Ozlem over email, arranging our reservations and answering all our questions, to the warm greeting we received from her and the staff upon arriving, it was genuine 5 star service throughout the trip. She even sent a reminder email of our upcoming stay and included the weather forecast for planning/packing purposes- a nice touch.

Upon arriving at the chaotic Istanbul airport, it was comforting to have a representative waiting for us to take us to the hotel with an English speaking driver, courtesy of the hotel. The driver was friendly and got us directly to the hotel, located in the heart of Sultanahmet, the old city. This is an ideal location to be based for touring the old side of Istanbul, and yet being close to walking or cabbing to the new side.

Ozlem and her staff greeted us like royalty, provided a speedy check-in, and offered us hot Turkish tea and coffee upon arrival. The boutique hotel had a small number (less than 30) of brand new, luxurious rooms. We enjoyed an upgraded room with a balcony, overlooking the street and the Blue Mosque in the distance. The linens and towels were amazing and the entire room had an elegant and modern feel while incorporating scenes from Istanbul on the back wall. The shower always had hot, great water pressure. (Note to hotel: due to the open design of the shower it does lead to water getting in the floor upon use). But overall the room was a very comfortable and cozy retreat to come back to after long days of exploring Istanbul. Note: regardless of where you stay, the first night you may be a little startled when you hear the call to prayer echoing through the city in the early hours of the morning. You do get used to it.

Breakfast was included with our rate and we enjoyed a wonderful spread of breads, cheeses, hard boiled eggs, juice, etc- and of course that amazing Turkish tea and coffee each morning. The staff even so kindly went out of their way to pack us a breakfast we could take with us on the way to the airport on the day of our very early morning departure. In the evenings, they were happy to recommend excellent restaurants, provide directions, and even call to make a reservation for us at the front desk.

We could not have picked a better hotel for its location, service, and wonderful new rooms- not to mention the gracious people themselves that work here. Staying at Boutique St Sophia provided a beautiful home away from home for our first trip to Istanbul.

We know this lovely new boutique hotel will become hard to get into!

Many thanks to Ozlem and staff for making our stay so great!
Mark and Nicole
