“Highly recommend Hotel Nena”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 September 2010

If you are looking for a hotel that offers easy access to the city's sites, is very affordable and has the comforts of home then Hotel Nena is definitely a good choice. This year I had the pleasure of returning to Turkey and had no hesitation in choosing Hotel Nena for accommodation. I have now stayed at Hotel Nena four times and each time it has not disappointed. It was a pleasant surprise however to see that the hotel and guest rooms were renovated prior to our return. The quality of the renovations were good and made the stay even more enjoyable. The hotel staff are highly professional and always eager to please. If you can get a balcony room you won't be disappointed either.

Whether it's your first visit to Istanbul or fourth visit Hotel Nena comes highly recommended by myself and family and friends who have stayed with me. The tram is at your door step and will get you around easily. All the sites like the Blue Moshe, Bazzar, Sistern, Spice Market and many others are within easy access. Taksim is also a short tram ride away.

I hope you get the opportunity to experience a pleasurable stay at Hotel Nena

Thanks to a friend who was there last year, we made a reservation at Hotel Nena before our cruise trip. What a delightful place. The top floor open-air restaurant has probably the best view of the Blue Mosque around. The included breakfast was superb, as was the dinner of very fresh fish. The location is perfect and within walking distance of both the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia. For a stay of two nights or longer, they will pick you up from the airport for free, otherwise there is a very reasonable charge. Only complaint was not having a top sheet on the bed, which may be a local custom.

The hotel is situated at a perfect spot in the Sultanahmet quarter, so the Topkapi palace, the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, the Grand Bazar, etc, etc, could be visited by foot. At arrival we received a discount coupon for the dinner in the restaurant at the top of the hotel. The view from this restaurant over the town is more than beautiful. The dinner, peppersteak and sea brass was perfectly prepaired and perfectly served. Ofcourse we tried out other restaurants in town, but no one was able to give us the same quality for the same money. Everybody in the hotel is very polite, friendly and helpful. We travelled to the hotel with a shuttle bus and paid also for the backtrip. Unfortunately the bus didnot appear in time. But the manager solved this problem for us in a perfect way. Special thanks to Narina of the breakfast-buffet and Mehmet of the reception, but also to the cook, the waiter and the cofferboy. I should like to come back again. The sooner the better. Thanks, a lot of thanks to all people of Hotel Nena where we had a perfect stay during 4 days.

It was a challenge choosing a medium priced hotel, with so many offerings, and in the end it was strictly "throw of the dice". We arrived in the early morning, were met at the airport by a professional driver and taken directly to the hotel. We stayed 4 days, and were given a room upgraded from our reservation, with unbelievable view of the "Blue Mosque" and the sea. The location was great, service and housekeeping as well, and a generous buffet breakfast on the terrace. It was a very positive beginning to our two weeks in Turkey.

The hotel is beautiful and our room was clean and very comfortable. The location was excellent for sightseeing and right in the middle of the old city. We enjoyed the fantastic views from the terrace where breakfast was served each morning. At 108EUR per night with a cash discount, we felt it was an excellent value and would definitely stay at Nena again.

This was our second visit to the Hotel Nena, as we stayed there two years ago in a deluxe room. I loved the deluxe rooms as they have their own private balcony with an outstanding view over the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofya and right over the water to the Bosphorous Bridge.
It is lovely to sit there first thing in the morning with a coffee, planning your day, or to watch the city lighted up while enjoying a nightcap (or rice pudding from one of the many take away pudding shops!)

This time we needed a triple room, which limited our choice somewhat. Much though I loved the Nena on our last visit, I do like to try new places, and hunted pretty widely, before deciding that nowhere else decent seemed to offer a triple room, with a balcony, for anything like as good a price. When checking the Nena prices be sure to enter your dates on their website as they offer several discounts, restaurant voucher and airport transfers which substantially reduce their initial published rate. The Nena’s secure booking section of the website is very good and they are very prompt at answering any queries you may have.

We certainly were not disappointed with our second visit, being met at the airport by the same member of staff as last time and driven right to the hotel door. Entering we were met by some more familiar faces, before being shown to our room. The rooms have just been renovated and are looking extremely smart and clean (though this is not reflected on their website pics yet) The room was big enough for us and it is a great bonus to be able to sit comfortably at a proper table and chairs out on the balcony. It must be said that the triple rooms do not have such an outstanding view as the deluxe rooms but they are muh cheaper and we still enjoyed it. The rooms are well equipped with sidelights, tablelamps, wardrobe, desk, fridge, TV and safety box. The only thing lacking was a bedlight for the third bed but we just moved one from the opposite side of the room.

The bathroom is also quite spacious with a good shower in the bath. The side of the bath seems higher than normal, and although we had no problem, it could be a little tricky for an elderly person.

The front entrance area is very attractive with computers available for guest use and the large covered conservatory is a lovely spot to relax with a drink. There is an elevator/ lift, too, which many hotels in Sultanahmet lack, but it is really welcome when you’re weary after a long day sightseeing. Staff are always friendly and helpful, too.

Speaking of sightseeing, the Nena is ideally located just a few steps from the main street Divan Yolu and the tram stop. Many sights auch as the Blue Mosque, Aya Sofya, the Cisterns and the Grand Bazaar are only a few minutes walk.

The selection at breakfast was huge with cereal, bread, cakes, fruit, typical Turkish cold meat, cheese and veg selection, and also hot sausage, eggs and potato dishes. The view from the breakfast room/ restauarant match that of the deluxe rooms so dinner here is also enjoyable in a lovely setting with good fresh meat and fish.

If I had one criticism, it is that the Nena does not provide tea/ coffee making facilities in the room, although the fridge is stocked with cold drinks and tea/ coffee are always available from reception. I just carry my plastic travel kettle and borrow a couple of cups from reception.
