“Very friendly staff, great value, great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2011

The entire staff is extremely friendly. They arranged reasonable transfers to and from the airport. The breakfast is delicious, and what a view! They give a 10% discount off the already low price, and use standard exchange rates with no markup. The neighborhood is quiet, but there are stray cats (as there are all over Istanbul) that get noisy at night. We stayed in March, and the rooms were a little too warm, so we opened the windows at night. Being three blocks away from the Blue Mosque, you couldn't ask for a better location. The rooms aren't fancy, but they're very clean, spacious, and the shower was terrific. A great value!

Just returned from a fantastic 5 days at the Dersaadet Hotel in Istanbul. Beautiful hotel in a brilliant location in the shadow of the Blue Mosque, but it is the staff that really set this hotel apart. They are extremely knowledgeable about absolutely every tourist destination and if they don't know they find out and get back to you immediately. But more it's abut more than knowledge they are genuinely interested in their guests, kind and helpful, almost make you want to stay in all day and chat to them. Guests return over and over again, it's clear why.
Thanks for my birthday gift!

Stayed here for 5 nights during March 2011. As it was verrrry cold outside, we were happy that rooms were well heated. Breakfast is typical Mediterranean and roof terrace has a nice view to Bosphorus. The area where hotel is situated is close to major attractions which is good if you're visiting the city for the first time. Even though this hotel offers great value, I would myself book a room closer to Tahir Square next time.

If there are guests arriving late, don't expect to sleep before thay are happily settled. This beautiful old building wasn't constructed to be sound proof.

My parents, aunt, and I stayed here for six nights and all of us had a truly memorable experience.
From the moment we arrived the staff could not do enough for us, from making Turkish coffee while the rooms were prepared, to having breakfast sent to the lobby on an early departure day, to answering all of our many questions, nothing was too much for any of them.
We felt as if we were staying in a private home as opposed to a hotel. The rooms all were spotless and comfortable with views of the Sea of Marmara ( one corner suite and two doubles for single use).
The hotel's location could not be better, with a few minutes walk to all the major sights in the old city, as well as local restaurants, shops, and Turkish baths/Hamams. The breakfast served on the rooftop terrace had more than enough choice for anyone's tastes.
We all look forward to returning to Istanbul and the Hotel Dersaadet and have no hesitation recommending it to anyone.

We visited Istanbul for a 4-day city-break. Not knowing what to expect, we read the reviews of the hotel and were suitably impressed. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming, the hotel was clean and comfortable and the location was quiet, too, whilst also within easy walking distance to the main sites and the Sultanahmed tram stop (solid footwear helps to manage the cobbled streets in Istanbul). For us one of the highlights was the amazing rooftop breakfast room which made this visit very special. The quality of the breakfast was also excellent and we would certainly want to stay here again for another time.

The Hotel Dersaadet's location in the Sultanahmet neighborhood of Istanbul makes touring the old city very easy. Almost everything we wanted to do or see was within walking distance. The hotel staff was available whenever we needed them and they made sure we knew where we were going and also gave us good restaurant recommnedations. Each and every one was welcoming, friendly and very helpful. The hotel is lovely and there is an astonishing view of the Blue Mosque from the roof-top terrace. Dersaadet has just been redone, so everything is newly decorated with style and a sense of comfort. Best of all, the staff really cares about each guest. And, Deniz Duyar, the owner, answered all our pre-trip e-mails full of quesitons with lightning speed. It was a delight to stay in this lovely hotel.

I've stayed at the Hotel Dersaadet twice - once last summer and once in December. The best feature of this hotel is the staff - they are all extremely friendly and helpful. I felt absolutely comfortable staying there as a woman traveling on my own and I would stay there again. They do allow an early check-in which is so important after a red-eye from the U.S.

They even prepared coffee & cake for me for an early morning departure.

The roof-top restaurant is charming with the sea-views typical of hotels in the area. I did not eat anything there other than the included breakfast and a turkish coffee to fortify me before an afternoon of sight-seeing so I can't comment on how the rest of the food is.

The rooms are not huge but the sheets are new and clean and the in-room toiletries are nice. The location is good -- walking distance to the sights of Sultanahmet.

My only complaint is that the rooms could use a new paint job -- the room I stayed in the second time had some chipping paint & the door lock was a bit loose.

I also wonder whether the price is a bit high - I don't really know the comparison for Istanbul these days, but I do remember that as recently as 2001, one could get cheap, serviceable room in Sultanahmet for $30 and a nice one for $65. I paid 95 Euro in cash in winter and I think a bit more in the summer. So while I like the Dersaasdet, I would like it even more if it were a bit less expensive!

We thank our guest for this lovely review and all the comments she made.

Our guest is absolutely right that some rooms need a paint job. As a matter of fact we are currently renovating Dersaadet, renewing the paint, wallpapers, and some of the bathrooms. (We offer our guests a complimentary upgrade to the Niles Suites in response to inquiries to stay at Dersaadet until February 7, 2011.) The renovation is planned to end by February 10, 2011.

And, how we wish the rates were as in their 2001 level. I too remember back in 2001, the rate for our double rooms were about USD 70 at Dersaadet as well. As of present though, USD 65 (Equivalent of EUR 48) is far below the general price level for Dersaadet ( or comparable old city hotels ) The last decade has brought the prices in the old city to a price interval in between EUR 100 and 150. For our budget conscious travelers, we do have Economy Rooms at our sister hotel, Hotel Niles, currently priced at EUR 50 , and about EUR 70 in the high season.

Although we are unable to offer the 2001 rates, we are and will always be looking for new ways to make your Dersaadet experience nicer every time and offer higher value .

Respectfully,

Deniz Duyar
