The Hotel is right on the Hippodrome directly across from the Blue Mosque and within stones through of the Aya Sofia and the Topkapi Palace. The rooms are comfortable, the showers excellent and the staff wonderful and friendly. The breakfasts are on the top floor with a fabulous view. Everyone is very accomodating and makes you feel at home. An excellent choice

I first found out about the Alzer hotel in Istanbul's Sultanamet area by doing a search on Trip advisor and comparing it with other hotels. I actually went to see some of the hotels in the area to check it out and see if "What we see is what we get" as mentioned in Trip Advisor.

The Alzer does deliver on what it promises. The staff is very friendly and helpfull. The views from the cafe located on the 6th floor are truly worth it. a 270 degree view of the sea, the Blue mosque and Hagia Sofia all from the top floor where those staying here can have breakfast. We stayed in the front room for one night and had a great view overlooking the square around the blue mosque as well as the giant menhir in the square and the blue mosque. The front room on the 3rd floor was not very big but made up with its great view, nice furniture and decor and a neat and clean bathroom. The only other point to mention is that since this room is in the front of the hotel, the windows cannot fully block out a little street noise as well as the prayers from the mosque just on the other side of the square. I however did not mind as it added to the experience and ambiance.

After our first night here, we left for Cappadocia and left our extra luggage with the hotel. The hotel not only kept this luggage but also made sure that when we returned back to Istanbul around 1 am the next night, the bags were properly kept in the standard room which is located on the back of the hotel.

These rooms are bigger and while did not have the same great view of the blue mosque-square, did have windows which overlooked the side street and had lots of natural light and ventilation. It was also a bigger room and very neat and functional.

This is Not a hotel for those who may prefer larger hotels with perhaps the latest gadgets and gizmos, however its perfect for those who want a boutique hotel experience and want to stay next to the most important monument in Istanbul.

The Location of the hotel also means that one one can easily walk around the area covering all the major sights and sounds including Hagaia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi palace, Turkish Baths, Brand Bazzar(about 10 minutes easy walk from the Alzer). The Islamic arts Museum is also next doors to the Alzer and definately worth a visit for a better understanding and perspective of Turkish heritage and culture.

The Alzer's location allows for visitors to also stroll back to the hotel for a siesta in the afternoon or to dump shopping bags before heading out again. The main tram line is also just walking distance and visitors can get on the tram to check out other parts of the town as well.

Hope this helps. Happy holidays
S

Just returned from a 5 night stay at the Alzer Hotel to celebrate my wifes 60th birthday. After reading other reviews and looking at the website we found the hotel disappointing. The room we had at the back of the hotel looked out over derelict buildings and the room itself although clean was well worn especially the shower room. We asked to change the room but were told "not possible". We found the man on reception at check in and check out not friendly and rather abrupt.
I emailed the hotel 3 times to arrange airport transfer but had no reply and ended up telephoning. I asked for some flowers in the room for her birthday and was charged E15 at checkout.
The negative stuff out of the way- the hotel really is in the very best location and the view from the breakfast room is wonderful, The Blue Mosque with the Bosphorus behind is one of the best views we have seen from any hotel. The breakfast was lovely and was well presented by the friendly chef and his wife.

My boyfriend and I cancelled an earlier reservation to switch to this hotel after reading all the great reviews, but we were disappointed. We were promised a room with a Bosphorus view when we made the reservation, but then told when we arrived that none were available. #31 looked nothing like the tastefully furnished rooms pictured in the photos - it was bright pink with a lace curtain over the bed and gaudy floral designs on all the furniture. The breakfast room's view was nice, but the breakfast itself was just so-so, with pretty terrible coffee, no toaster, and they charge you on the spot if you want an espresso. The wifi didn't work in our room, so we had to come down to the lobby every time. I left a dress behind in the room, and called within a few hours of checking out to see if they'd send it to me in Ankara - for which I would gladly have paid the shipping charge - but supposedly it had disappeared, though no one else had yet checked in. After everything else, that left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. It's true the location's great - but there are a ton of centrally located Istanbul hotels, many for a lot cheaper than this one.

Room Tip: Avoid the pink, lace and flowers of #31 - unless maybe you're a 7-year old girl.

We had breakfast in this lovely hotel, when returning from our Australia trip in January, and then I decided that one day I'll live a couple of days in this hotel.

That time came quite quick, because I returned from my summer vacation in Thailand also via Istanbul, and took 3 day stopover here, so I spent three night at Alzmer.

This hotel is small and old, stuff more than friendly, and the best part ithe roof restaurant, where they serve their nice breakfast. At the same time you can admire Hagia Sofia, Sultanahmet and the Hippodrome.

Room was beautifully decorated, bed comfortable, bathroom nice, so this hotel was just for me. You can either walk or take the tram to visit touristplaces like the Bazaar, Topkapi or whatever you wish.

I used taxi to airport trips, but my daughter, who visited this hotel later this summer used tram and metro, and told me that it was easy too.

I was here 9.6 - 12.6.2012

Everything you'll hear about this hotel is totally true: great location and friendly staff. We stayed 5 nights. We loved the roof restaurant where we take breakfast with a view over the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque and the sea. We also loved the terrace of the cafe. In brief, Alzer Hotel made our stay in Istanbul even better.

Room Tip: Hippodrome room are more sophisticated and have a better view, but even economy room are spacious an...

This hotel is located in a choice location just across from the Blue Mosque. From the breakfast room at the top of the hotel you also have views of the Hagia Sofia and the sea. That first view on our first morning there was awe-inspiring. The staff at the desk were very friendly and helpful with our many questions. We were able to walk to almost everywhere that we wanted to go from here. In addition to the above mentioned attractions we also went to the Grand Bazaar, the Topkapi Palace, and the Archeological Museum. We were also able to easily take the tram to the Bosphorous for a cruise up the river. There are many shops and restaurants nearby too. The only caveat is the rooms are small and the furnishings a bit tired. I was also a bit concerned about all the laundry bags stored in front of the fire escape on our floor. The others seemed to be clear. It seemed worth it though for the great location.

Room Tip: It is fairly quiet at night as there is no traffic in front of the hotel. Rooms on upper floors woul...
