A historic building with tremendous potential. But Jumeirah, which is a strange mish mash of hotels lacking any coherence, has done a pretty terrible job with the decoration and floor plans. Bath rooms are tiny (I had booked a premium room) and the decoration quality and esthetics are more appropriate for an uninteresting bland four star hotel than that of a supposed luxury hotel in a building which could potentially be full of character.
Service is average but not top notch luxury service. The breakfast delivered to our room was different every day even though I ordered the same things during the four days we stayed there!!
Conclusion. Its ok buy they should focus less on talking about the history and more on the decoration and service. The patisserie could be wonderful, the lounge areas as well, the rooms could have a classic epoque style and sophisticated decor.......But they are not.....

During my fourth visit to Istanbul I stayed at the Pera Palace, which was a lovely historical treat. The property is well renovated from her glory days and filled with historic memorabilia when it was the hotel of choice for those arriving on the Orient Express. Service remains top notch as does dining at Agatha's, named after the famed author. Our dinner on the night of our arrival was exceptional and dining in the restaurant is highly recommended. Insist on a room on an upper floor unless you are part of a group using the Orient Bar for an evening dining function. It can be loud and rooms one the first floor will be disturbed if a party is taking place.

Yes, you could stay at the Four Seasons (Bosphorus) or the Kempinski Ciragan Palace and be beside the Bosphorus, or the Four Seasons at Sultanahmet and be right by some of the key sights, and these are luxurious and expensive hotels - with prices to match. But the Pera Palace is in a central location and a great neighbourhood, surrounded by hip bars and good restaurants; it is historic with real character yet luxurious; the staff are incredibly helpful, and when (not if) we come back to Istanbul this is where we'd stay again.

We recently spent a couple of weeks visiting Turkey and Greece. For our first 2 nights, we stayed at the Pera Palace. As a destination hotel of the old Orient Express, it retains its lavish and romantic feel. The concierge, and the rest of the staff, was more than helpful with every request and met our needs quickly and in a friendly manner. When I asked the concierge for help finding a particular restaurant that was a little bit out of the area, he went out of his way to help. He even called others and we finally found exactly the spot.

We were very happy with our stay and recommend this hotel to others who are planning a stay in Istanbul. Lovely!

The Pera Palace is full of history. It was the hotel at the end of the Orient Express and very elegant. Anaturk the President of Turkey who Westernized Turkey lived there part time. There is a museum in his honor located there. Agatha Christie wrote "Orient Express" there. Jackie O stayed there, Rita Hayworth stayed there.
Located on the Modern Side of Istanbul, it is in a more upscale neighborhood and fantastic restaurants near by. Cross the street and hit the roof top bar at The Marmara Pera Palace and watch the sunset and night life come alive as 16 million people maneauver the city. Watch out, on weekends, 3 million more people flood the city for the Night Life. The hotel has been recently been purchased by Jumeriah and has major updates. Security is fantastic, as is Reception and Concierge. Friendly and unobtrusive staff. Great breakfast but very expensive so try to get a meal plan !!!

Room Tip: Ask for Golden Horn Side and upper floors,

My daughter and I have just come back from a short break in Istanbul, as my husband came here on business 20 years ago, he suggested the hotel because of the history and because of the recent refurbishment. We were not disappointed, on arriving we were greeted by friendly and competant staff who brought us ice cold lemonade and flannels, after telling them our flight was very hot and uncomfortable.

Our room was quiet with comfortable beds which were of a generous size, and luxurious linen. The bathroom was lovely with a marble shower which you could sit in if required.

Breakfast was a wonderful choice for everyone's taste, and we did on one night have drinks in
the bar where we felt very comfortable and looked after by one of the lady bar staff, who was very informative about Turkish wines ( the Shiraz was as good as she said).

We did have a Hamman and were delighted with Svetlana and her co-worker (sorry I cannot remember her name butl she was lovely) who were both professional and very friendly.

The staff on the concierge desk were just more thank helpful and very kind.

Overall I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, it is in a really nice area the staff are brilliant and it is first class service. Thank you Pera Palace staff for a really nice stay!

I stayed at Pera Palace for just 1 night at the end of September and generally enjoyed it.

I was there for work so there wasn't much exploring to do within the hotel, but the location is great, right next to all the shopping areas and the city is very vibrant this time of year since the weather is absolutely amazing.

The staff speak english extremely well and they were unbelievably kind and helpful, the food is pretty good as well over there.

The rooms were a little too rustic for my taste, but very comfortable nonetheless. The bathroom was also a little small, enough for one person but two people would not be comfortable in that room. (It was a deluxe room). It's very reasonably priced though, so if it is just a two day stop in istanbul I would highly recommend it, but if you are there to relax I would suggest a different hotel.
