“Very welcoming and a great base from which to explore Istanbul.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2013

This is a wonderful small hotel in the heart of Sultanahmet, located directly between the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia. Staff is unfailingly helpful and courteous, rooms are spotless (many are a little small, though some are large), and the outdoor space in the back garden is an oasis in the city. A great base for exploring Istanbul for the independent traveler or for frequent visits.

This hotel brings one back to more genteel times in Istanbul, though the property is quite up to date. It is housed in Victorian era building with a beautiful garden out back where one can eat the included breakfast buffet or pop in for lunch or afternoon tea--or dinner for that matter. It is in the heart of the old European part of the city.

A lovely hotel with spacious rooms and friendly and obliging staff right in the heart of the Sultanahmet area, the heart of the old city. Situated within a one minute walk of both the Aya Sofia and the Blue Mosque. Even the walk down to the Bosphorus is only 20 minutes. Just follow the tram lines!!You could not hope for a better location.
We spent three nights there in July during Ramadan, which added to the wonderful atmosphere. A warning though, it can be a bit noisy outside at night if you have a street facing room, perhaps because of Ramadan, and you have to love the call of the muezzin early, early each morning. We would definitely go back.

The service was superb, the location couldn't have been better! The room decor was very appealing in keeping with the antiquity of the hotel. The bathroom was spacious. The room does not have a radio nor television. However, we certainly had no need for either as there is a wide variety of music wafting from the immediate surrounds. The breakfast provided a wonderful array of Turkish and Western choices and amidst lovely gardens right in the heart of Sultanahmet.

Room Tip: Be aware that the rooms are located on the second and third floors and there is no elevator.

The hotel is very well situated halfway between The Blu Mosque and Ayai Sofia in a (mainly) pedestrian area. It is within easy walking distance of The Grand Bazaar,The Spice Market,Topkapi Palace and the harbour. The hotel is a traditional wooden buiding. The rooms are modest in size, furnished with antiques. It has a feeling of "shabby chic". The air conditioning was ineffective. The staff are ever helpful but it was difficult to get a kettle and tea making facilities in the room. Bottled water was supplied but we were charged for it at checkout, although there was no tariff or indication that it was at a supplement (a small criticism). I would return there without hesitation.

This hotel is a restored traditional wooden mansion, painted pastel shades with a lovely courtyard
garden restaurant where you can dine in shade or sun while fountains play.
It was furnished in antique style with many antique paintings and prints on the walls which were carefully chosen.
Room 33 was very comfortable, not spacious but more than adequate and the bathroom was modern and fine with shower.
Staff helpful and friendly. Breakfast; nice spread of cheeses, meats salads and very good fresh local breads.
Best thing was position in quiet side road between Aghia Sophia and Blue Mosque (I was so tired from all the walking I slept through the muezzin at 5 am) You could step outside at 8 am and enjoy the gardens before the crowds of tour groups arrive at 9. Also well placed for getting
at the head of the queues for Aghia Sophia and Topkapi Palace. which can be at least an hour.

Would have liked tv to keep up with news. No tea making facilities but they provided a kettle etc when we requested them. Air conditioning ineffective, we propped windows open.

Plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby; didn't actually eat in the courtyard restaurant.

Room Tip: Room 33 was fine.

Just a wonderful stay in a mostly empty hotel in the off season: Feb. 2013.
Lovely room with a view on the Blue Mosque and wake-up calls with the
call to prayer in the morning. A delightful hidden garden and indoor
restaurant. Excellent service all around. In season, one really will need
to book I imagine as there are only 19 room.
If coming by taxi, they'll drop you off as near as possible,
as the hotel is in a no-go zone for cars/taxis. Close to the tram for getting
to the Bazaar and/or to the 'new town'. Note: no TV in our room and we
couldn't care less... too much to see and do in Istanbul to have time for
television. No pool or fitness center, so don't know how to evaluate that.
