We spent 3 nights here in Istanbul prior to boarding our 6 star Crystal Cruise. We wanted to stay in a luxury hotel with a more local flavor than the Ritz or Four Seasons and we wanted to be walking distance to all the main sights. We chose this property based on tripadvisor reviews in conjunction with our travel agent who understands our luxury travel style. The hotel arranged for a driver and an english speaking guide to pick us up at the airport which was excellent. We arrived late at night and check in was very easy. Immediately noticed their TripAdvisor sign behind the desk! Our room, while very clean, was probably the smallest room we have stayed in during the past 20 years, and we did book their largest room category. It was much smaller than our penthouse on the ship! Closet space was also quite small. We spent 3 days tripping over all the luggage we had brought for the attire required for a 12 night luxury cruise. The bed was also small and very low to the ground. We were awakened every morning by the call to prayer at the crack of dawn over the loudspeakers outside in the city. I am sure this would be the same at every hotel in Istanbul, so I suggest you bring the earplugs they gave you on the plane to help alleviate that problem. The bathroom was clean and modern. Breakfast was included and i must say it was a challenging breakfast. Other than rolls and some fruit, not at all our style or like any other hotel breakfast that we have had on our many trips to Europe. We skipped it completely on our last morning. I enjoyed reading the information on the hotel ruins in the lobby. Made you appreciate the history of where you were staying. Location was great for walking around the city. There was a nice sidewalk cafe/bar across the street that we went to each evening. Overall the staff was very professional and friendly. Beware of a scam that happened to us. unbeknownst to us we were followed one evening as we left the hotel to go out and find a place to go for dinner. About 10 minutes into our walk a young man came up to us and asked us how we were enjoying our stay. He said he worked at our hotel and recognized us. We didn't recognize him and should have walked away quickly. He discouraged us from going into the restaurant we had decided to meet us and insisted on taking us to a better place where I am sure he got a big kick back. Needless to say the food was terrible and overpriced and it turns out this person did not work at our hotel. I took a photo of him as he walked away and staff said that he most definitely did not work at the hotel. If we ever return to Istanbul again, I think we will opt for The Four Seasons.
