Owner description: This three-towered fortress was built in 1452 on the Bosphorus to protect the narrow waterway from advancing ships.

Generally, I respect attractions, which you can not only watch but also to touch, so to speak. Especially if this landmark fortress or castle, and you can climb on them (almost) without any restrictions. Rumeli Hisarı belongs to this class, no doubt. Cheap ticket (only TL10), a small number of people (if you visit in the morning), and almost complete freedom of action (I was not allowed only to the large tower - I do not know whether the tower closed at all or it was an unfortunate day). One and a half hours (quietly and slowly) continuous pleasure - to climb the steep stairs without handrails (by the way, be careful with this - sometimes exceeds the critical fall height), making stunning photos of the fortress and the Bosphorus. The pleasure derived from the visit for me personally comparable to visit the Galata Tower, Hagia Sophia and the Sultan's Palace combined.

this visit is really nice, you can smell the Bosphorus , the view is incredible, i really love the place, BUT be careful, the trip on the wall is a must but no security, be careful if you are afraid by altitude or no kids without parents!! really it is not a joke , nice but dangerous.
In any case if you have time to spent in Istanbul this visit has to part of your city tour.

We only saw the fortress from a cruise on the bosphorus and it was gorgeous. Can't imagine how beautiful it must be from within the walls of the fortress!
