“A Healthy Dose of Local Culture”
Reviewed 8 May 2012

You'll know you've reached Ortakoy as your eyes are drawn to lights gracefully casting down on the Bosphorus. This vibrant area, bustling with activity and people, offers a plethora of dining choices running the gamut from casual to fancy. It feels like a happy place where locals are kicking back, taking in a breath of fresh air, and enjoying their beautiful Istanbul in the form of ships gliding across a sparkling river under the night sky.

Getting here from Taksim Square was easy via public bus, but be wary of traffic in the evening. You may be better off taking the bus part way and walking the rest. Maybe that's the way to do it actually…you'll get a close up view and feel of the universities and other buildings around the perimeter of Ortakoy which are fascinating in themselves.

We are really glad to have meandered away from the main areas of the city for an evening and experienced Ortakoy. We highly recommend it for a change of scenery and a good time!

“A place to leisurely walk, eat and shop”
Reviewed 5 May 2012

Ortakoy is a quaint part of Istanbul that is right in front of the water. There are a few fish restaurants, the Cafe Haus, and other restaurants and a couple of bars. There are also ice cream and kumpir (baked potato with toppings for 5 TL) vendors. You can also find some Turkish jewelry shops and leather shops that are not as busy as those in the Grand Bazaar. I found the prices here very reasonable. From Ortakoy, you can have a great view of the Bosphorus Bridge. Nice place to visit in the day or the night.

“Lovely Place”
Reviewed 29 April 2012

Ortakoy is a fantastic spot by the sea. Excellent views of Bosphorous and a beautiful mosque. Just take a seat, order a cup of tea or you may order 'kumpir' ( baked potatoes stuffed ) and feel the atmosphere there.
