I've stayed here three times on different visits to Istanbul and have enjoyed it greatly. The stairs are very steep (so be aware), but the staff will handle your luggage for you. (I'm in my 60's and have had no problem at all with the stairs.) This is not a place for people who like standard, 5-star, American-style hotels, but you get much more interesting character (and no sacrifice of comfort). Some rooms are small, but all that I've had have been very comfortable and enjoyable. One of the best things is the breakfast which can be eaten outside in good weather. Great coffee and interesting, varied breakfast items. My single room did not have a TV, but I didn't care about that. It did have good a/c (and I did care).

Location is excellent, near the main sights (not near to the Bosphorus River but a nice walk to it.) You can also sit outside at night and have a drink with a great view. I'd definitely return.

Room Tip: If you care about TV, ask for a room with one. Some rooms have nice views, so ask if one is availabl...

This wonderful hotel is situated in Sultanamet very close major atractions in Istambul. All bedrooms has different decoration in turkish style. It has a wonderful garden where you can take breakfast or have a drink with beautiful views over the Bosphorus.
Around the hotel we have lots of restaurants where we can eat at reasonable prices.
The breakfast is very exclusive, abundant and no standardized.

We were in Istanbul for three days, four nights before we got on a boat to go around the mediterranean. On the website, we thought it looked interesting and good for our stay, when we got there, we were immeditely proved wrong, it was much better than that. After the airline forgot our luggage in Frankfurt, we were in a particularly bad mood; but when we got to the hotel that changed. They sent a van just for us to the airport and a friendly man got all our luggage for us. We drove throught the streets until we got to sultanahmet, the old quarter. We walked into the charming lobby with a comfortable sitting area and beautiful art. We were then proceeding to lug our luggage up the little spiral staircase that led up into the hotel, but one of the staff took all four of our bags without even second thought. After we dropped the bags off in our room ( he hadn't even broken a sweat) we got a full tour of the empress Zoe. We were in the deluxe garden suite, on the second level. There were three buildings, the main house, the garden suite building, and a small one with three more modern Mediterranean rooms. There was also an ancient Turkish Hamam (bathhouse) from the ottoman era, adding quite a charm to the whole complex. The garden was astoundingly beautiful, with flowers, trees, herbs, tables, and an assortment of friendly cats. The breakfast, despite what some of the other reviews said, was delicious; and it had a variety of friendly staff to acompany it. There are two decks, one with an amazing view of the sea of mamara, the other with a view over the sea all the way to the galata district, and a view of the haghia sofya. The garden was also a quiet and cool retreat from the busy streets of Istanbul. Our room was amazing, it had a giant marble walk in shower, a room in the back with a double, and two Turkish day beds. The room in the front looked out onto the garden, also with its own deck. It had a kitchenette and a glass table, and another three turkish daybeds ( which also offer a comfortable place to sleep) another enjoyable aspect was the cats, jasper, the patriarch of them all was a regular frequent of our deck, and a kitten, who the toddler daughter of a British family refers to as the "bad kitty". Also, they have the best lemonade in the world at the bar, fresh squeezed, set a new standard for lemonade fit for the gods. It's only available at certain times, but when it is, don't pass it up. Another thing that charmed us about this hotel is how it has it's own personality, none of that run of the mill everyday hotal stuff. Just to add more sunshine to our stay, it was only a dive minute walk from topkapi palace, the haghia sofya, the blue mosque, the basilica cistern, and a fifteen minute walk from the grand bazaar. Also, a little down the street is a restraunt that has a big whole in the wall that leads down to an ancient byzantine roman palace. Also, the staff were the friendliest ever. Another note, please vist Artemis, a little rug and nick nak shop built in to the building. It's run by a man named Joseph and his brother, and they are very friendly. We definitely plan to return this summer.

Our family of two adults and two children spent three nights here in December 2011, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The rooms were tastefully and artistically done, the inclusive breakfast was abundant, and the staff were knowledgeable and helpful. The owner, Ann, even ensured that some of the borek pastries served at breakfast were not brushed with egg, to accommodate our vegetarian diet. The location was superlative - the main attractions were only a short stroll away, as was the tramway. A claustrophobe might find the narrow, winding stairs and overall old-world atmosphere to be constraining, but for us, it only heightened the charm. Overall, a very pleasant experience and a recommended hotel.

Room Tip: The family room (one queen and two single beds) is a great choice, especially if you have small chil...

My daughters (ages 13 and 11), husband and I spent 3 nights in the Villa Zoe Terrace Suite. Spacious and comfortable with a view of the Sea of Marmara. We loved the location (across from the Four Seasons and walking distance from major must-see sites and great restaurants). Delicious breakfast in cozy dining room. Highly recommend.

We stayed on a family trip for five days during early November in this nice little hotel, with three generations, six people altogether.

The children liked the alcove beds and also the four poster beds were the adults slept were very comfortable. Our mother had some difficulties climbing the many stairs, but staff was always helpful to open the door on the upper part of the road.

The hotel is decorated very nicely and has a beautiful secluded garden through which some of the rooms can be reaches. The location is outstanding, very close to all the interesting sites while a bit on the edge of the fast developing tourist area of Sultanahmet.

The breakfast was very good, however, the situation on the breakfast counter was very crammed and it was not so easy to find seating for our larger group, it was not so easy to find place to sit since it too cold to sit outside, which would have allowed for more people to sit.

The concierge helped us to find good restaurants. The restaurant choices near the hotel, while decent, are utterly touristic. There are good and more authentic places not far from the hotel.

Overall the hotel can clearly be recommended.

Room Tip: Check for rooms with private hammam.
