Owner description: Famed architect Sinan built this majestic structure for one of the greatest rulers of the Ottoman Empire. Although this mosque is less ornate, there are many similarities between it and the Hagia Sophia since the same architect was responsible for both.

“My favorite mosque”
Reviewed 29 July 2012

Get food in the cafe in front of the mosque. Not expensive and VERY authentic and delicious!
Also, souvenirs in that area are cheaper that in down town Sultanahmet, so it would be a good chance for you.

The last, thing, if you are a photograper, go away from the mosque in the direction where the souvenirs and cafes are, pass through the arch and the first building on the left is a student dormitory or some kind of student campus. You can go there and ask the students to go on the balcony and take an awesome picture of the mosque!! If you dare of course:)

“Impressive hilltop position”
Reviewed 26 July 2012

Another great large mosque with good views over Sultanahmet and the Bosphorus. Rivals the Blue Mosque for sheer size.

“Most pretty mosque in Istanbul”
Reviewed 25 July 2012

It's a bit far from the main touristic area but definitely don't miss this place, it's less crowded and it is the most pretty mosque in Istanbul for its very colorful inside decorations.

“Impressive Excellent Condition”
Reviewed 24 July 2012

The Suleymaiye Mosque has impressive architecture, and is in excellent condition. Once inside the gates of the mosque you can look around the grounds, take pictures, and then go inside and look at the structure of the building, the beautiful calligraphy and tiles. The site does not take much of your time and makes great pictures.
