We run into that bridge after visiting Taksim and walking down the beautiful Istiklad street.
The traffic is high on the road, but you can walk by side and take nice photos. Plenty of people are fishing.
You can also go down near the see level and take pictures, see the boats and enjoy the view. Also you can walk in this level, there are also restaurants to sit, but I personally didn't like those at all. The whole bridge is used a lot and is dirty.
You will and up in a very busy square. It is not beautiful nor clean but all these people make it interesting. There everyone, mostly locals, is sitting and eating a sandwich with fish, salad and onion, sold in three boats. Try it if you fill like it.

An underground underpass will lead you to Yeni Cami and the entrance of spice market.

The bridge itself is not so special, but is full of people, restaurants, excellent view etc and gives you a feeling of Istanbul. Try to go there in the afternoon, take a sit in one of the restaurants with a view on the West side and wait for the sunset. It is just amazing.

PS: Do not forget to eat the fish sandwich :)

After a day on the boat trips and the Galatea Tower, decided to walk back home over the Galatea Bridge. So many restaurants to choose from, picked the last one with the guys outside grilling the fish, fast service and plenty of food for the money. Walked along the coast road by the sea, thought about trying the free gym machines but was too full, up a couple of back streets and a welcome from the landlord, Selami and an invite to try his wifes delicious food later that night. Best apartment ever, found on TR.

Tram noise, rushing crowd, ferries, street vendors competing for attention, imposing mosque overhead, fishermen lining across the entire span, car/bus jamming bridge roadway, take it all in!! Be sure to grab a fish sandwich from one of the 3 sanctioned boats (a meal for 2 costs $3, can't go wrong).

You can plan to visit Galata bridge during evening which is on a walkable distance from main tourist areas. When you cross the bridge (towards the galata tower), at the end on the right side on the sea side there are many stalls selling tea, fish and kabab sandwiches. You can sit on the sea side and enjoy sandwich and special black Turkish tea.
