“The great reviews are legit--Erboy is a super choice!”
Reviewed 1 December 2010

Before we went to Istanbul for a week for our anniversary, I was nervous because many of the glowing reviews of Erboy had been posted by people with only one Tripadvisor review, and I'd heard that some hotels offer their guests incentives to post positive reviews, so I wasn't sure all the hoopla was real.

Well, it is. Erboy DOES NOT solicit positive reviews from their guests. When we returned home, we got a polite email from the hotel, asking about our flight and inviting us to post our opinions on Tripadvisor. There was not pressure whatsoever to make a positive comment, nor was there any incentive to be less than truthful about our stay.

So here's my two cents' worth: Erboy is a great value, in an absolutely perfect location for enjoying the Old City, and every positive comment about the staff and the food at Pasazade Restaurant is right on the mark. There are plenty of reviews about room size, etc., so I'll post some less common factors:

We qualified for a free shuttle and chose to use it on arrival. If for some reason your shuttle driver isn't there to meet you (this happened to us), the staff at the information kiosk just beyond the ground transportation greeting area will phone the hotel for you.

Brita filtered water and the makings for tea are supplied in the room, and these were restocked each day. If you want inexpensive bottled water (or other drinks or snacks), pop across the street to Unal Market. There's also a pharmacy across the street should you need it.

We had a small balcony (Room 3302) and the windows were absolutely soundproof. Although the hotel is very near several mosques, we were never disturbed by the early morning calls to prayer. We were also very near the elevator, but since we were only a couple floors up, most people used the stairs. The elevator noise could be a problem on upper floors; if you're worried about it, just ask. The staff are great!

Engage the staff in your plans! Aysa and Jada were both a great resource, and in no time had us oriented to the city--and confident enough to use public bus transport for many of our excursions (an entertainment we're glad we didn't miss).

Our bed was VERY firm, and instead of a full comforter or spread had only a narrow strip of decorative fabric at the foot. We found that the air conditioner/heater worked very well, so it wasn't a problem.

The only downside was at times an unpleasant smell from the bath, but it wasn't bothersome enough to complain about. If we had said something, I'm sure the staff would have found some way to deal with it.

I hope you have a great trip--we loved Istanbul, and we're already planning our return. (Yes, we'll be staying at Erboy.)

First, location: SIrkeci is in the very center of "everything"! Just beween Topkapi, Sultanahmet area, Grand Bazaar and pier from which you can reach more distant areas of this special city. Couldn't think of better place to see as much as possible in always too short time you have to stay here.;)
Standard of the hotel is well beyond 3 (Turkish) stars. Rooms are rather small, even for European;) but assuming that you didn't come here to stay in the room they have everything traveller need. They are decently furnished, clean and well equipped (beside fridge i missed from time to time;)) One weak thing is thin walls that makes every flushing water easily hearable, like it happened in your own bathroom ;)
Staff is really helpful, kind and well speaking English (regards to Ayse :))! I didnt have a single issue they wouldnt be able to solve :)
To conclude: i recommend staying in this hotel to everyone that really care about seeing the city, for very reasonable price and in good atmosphere.

We reached Hotel Erboy from the Istanbul Airport in the taxi they had arranged for us. Although we took a little longer to get the visa and clear immigration, they taxi they sent patiently waited the extra hour for us at the airport. Tired after our dawn flight from Delhi, we were happy to be welcomed into the hotel with apple tea. We had requested high floor in our reservation, and was given a room with a view of the Bosphorus and the Topkapi Palace (although an adjacent building's height partially blocks partial blocks the view of the Bosphorus). The service is friendly an attentive. For being given a free dinner voucher to wheelchair service (for my mother who is suffering from knee problems), they pretty much helped wherever they could.
The room is a little bit small for three people, but it was warm and cosy. The bathroom is clean and looked new - although climbing into the shower's 2 feet partition can be a challenge for some.
Hotel Erboy is located a block away from the tram station Gulhane, close to the Topkapi Palace. One can pretty much walk to the Sultanahmet area in one direction, or to Eminonu ferry station in the other. The alleys behind the hotel are quaint and replete with boutique restaurants and cafes. Explore the alleys a little further for cheap, good eats.
The roof-top bar is not always open due to weather, but when it is, it is perfect for some wine or beer and catching up to the days activities. One can then proceed to the main restaurant at the below-lobby level. The food is good, but not great. The breakfast spread is probably the fanciest kind you would find in Turkey with a good spread.
All in all, I would definitely stay in this hotel if I return to Istanbul.

My wife and I went to Istanbul for our honeymoon. We wanted to go to a place neither one has been to. Istanbul had been a dream place of both ours for years. We went to TripAdvisor to find a hotel. The Erboy Hotel fit our criteria for what we wanted (price, location, amenities). The hotel is between a 10 to 20 minute walk from all the historic sites in Istanbul; Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Tokapi Palace, Grand Bazaar, Spice Market and Underground Cistern. The hotel has two restaurants that serve great food. The hotel on the top floor is must. Besides excellent food it has one of the best views of the entire city. But what surprised me when my wife and I was the staff. Everyone, from the front desk to the wait staff were very friendly. Jada, who greeted us when we arrived and works in guest services was especially helpful. It says something to me when the staff remember who you are and greet you every time they see you. The Erboy Hotel is a reasonably priced hotel, in a great location, and the most helpful staff.

Hotel Erboy made our honeymoon in Istanbul perfect. We combed through TripAdvisor for a hotel with great reviews, good location and a fair price. Major score with this hotel!

We made an online reservation via Erboy's website (www.erboyhotel.com/en/) and immediately received an email from the front desk, who assisted us with our all questions (e.g. the new public ferry schedule, exchanging money). We landed a deal for free airport pickup/transfer - vital after our 19+ hour journey. Our driver was on time, friendly, helpful and expertly whizzed through crazy traffic and pointed out sights. Also, since we booked a certain number of nights, we also enjoyed a free dinner at their Paşazade Restaurant, featuring Ottoman Cuisine (mezes were scrumptious).

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted with hot apple tea and presented with an orientation to the city by the super sweet Jada. She was very patient and answered all our random questions. We stayed a corner room on the 5th floor, #1507, with a gorgeous view of the Hagia Sophia and Ebusuud Cadessi. The street noise wasn't a problem and air conditioner worked very well. Ample closet and drawer space, a room safe and a welcome bottle of wine! There are two computers in the lobby, with free internet.

Erboy's location couldn't be better. It's in a safe and vibrant area, with lots of eateries and shops, and a super close walk to all the beautiful sights. We can't say enough compliments about the staff - they are all stars! All this PLUS a DELICIOUS & FREE continental breakfast every morning! Fantabulous variety of fruit, breads, cheeses, cereals, sausages, etc. My favorite were the fresh honeycomb, yogurt and potatoes. There are ample tables to seat yourself. Coffee, tea and water are available.

Be sure to also try the terrace restaurant at sunset. It's advisable to make a reservation the day before for the best table - request one around the perimeter to enjoy an amazing panoramic view of the city. By the way, as a guest, you'll also receive a "Sirkeci Group Family Card" with entitle you to a 10% discount to Erboy's restaurants as well a couple others at their sister hotel.

We will 100% book here again when we return to Istanbul!

We stayed in the Erboy for 4 nights in September, and were immediately impressed by the location; within 10 minutes walking distance of the Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, Basillica Cistern etc, and literally a minute from the tram stop. Staff were polite and friendly, and the hotel was clean overall. Our room was a good size with fabulous air con, although the room and bathroom could benefit from some modernisation. The breakfast selection was adequate, although the menu somewhat limited. The Erboy is by no means luxurious, although represents comfort and great value for money, and we would recommend to anyone looking for a base from which to explore the city.

Good location. 5 minutes on foot to the Sultanahmet square. 1 minute to the tram.
The room is not big but clean and cosy. What surprised me was a ceiling. It's quite low. I could easily reach it by hand without jumping.
However it looks like all buildings it that area are the same style.
The breakfast is good beside one point. All types of sausage they have are just like plastic food :) All rest, especially buns and croissants, was really delicious.
The staff is really hospitable !
So considering all points I would highly recommend this hotel !
PS they provided us with a free taxi from the hotel to the airport. This option is available when you stay 3 nights and more.
