“Great budget hotel, good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 June 2008

We are two couples who stayed three nights at the Hotel Inter after having it recommended by friends who stayed there the previous year. We were not disappointed with the choice. The free pickup at the airport (for a three night stay) was a wonderful service that we missed since our flight was delayed but the hotel graciously picked up the price of the taxi. A gesture that was totally unexpected but very much appreciated! We love to walk and all attractions that we wanted to visit in Istanbul were within reach, particularly the Grand Bazaar. The staff was friendly, the rooms clean, the price was right. That is all we ask for in a budget hotel and that is what we got! We went from this hotel to board a cruise ship and talking with other passengers who stayed at cruise recommended hotels, very costly and out of town, we felt we got the best deal by far. By the way, breakfast was included in the price.

I'll second the good opinion for this hotel. The free airport pick-up was reassuring for my first visit to Turkey. It's a block off the main street with the trams which makes it quieter but but just two blocks to the Bezayit tram station for easy access to all of Istanbul with an Akbil pass. This pass works on the buses, trains, and ferries also.

The Inter Hotel has excellent free WiFi with several access points so the signal is strong in your room, not just the lobby. There is also a free computer to use in the lobby. The rooms are small but kept very clean and the the shower in a tube is neat. This is a bargain with the free breakfast and 10% cash discount.

This was the first hotel we stayed at in Turkey and our first impression of the room wasn't great, but now that we can compare it to others throughout Turkey in this price range we know that it's actually pretty good.
The rooms here are very small but they're clean and the bathroom is nice.
Location is excellent, only a block back from the Grand Bazaar and tram station.
Other points to note:
With the exeption of the guy that works on the reception desk on Sundays - who was very nice, the other staff are unfriendly and not at all willing to assist. The guy (the manager?) with the glasses who worked throughout the week was particularly rude and unwelcoming.
The buffet breakfast is excellent.
The exchange rates offered by reception are surprisingly good for a hotel (although you'll get better rates up by the Grand Bazaar).
The pick-up service from the airport is good and the price is reasonable.
Book directly and pay in cash and you'll get a good room rate.

I'd stay there again.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights at the end of May 2008. My husband and I were looking for a budget hotel, close to the sites, and we booked this hotel based on the TripAdvisor reviews. We were not disappointed.

First with booking the room. I contacted the hotel through their website and continued coorespondence via email. All coorespondence were timely and friendly.

We arrived in Istanbul around noon from the overnight train from Thessaloniki. (Note: The free transportation is only for the airport, NOT the train station.) However, there is a tram station right in front of the train station, and we took it to Beyazit stop, which is only a few blocks from the hotel. Our room was not ready when we arrived, but the hotel stored our bags while we went to get some lunch nearby.

Although we had requested a room with a view, there was not a 6th floor room available when we arrived. So, we got a room on the second floor for the first night, and moved to the 6th floor for the next 2 nights.

The 2nd floor room was adequate for a budget room but not what we were expecting based on the raving reviews on the site. (After being moved to our 6th floor room, we assume that most of the reviews are from people staying on the top floor.) Our 2nd floor room had 2 twin beds, a small closet, a small tv. There was a view of only a concrete wall from the window. It was a very small room, but adequate to just drop your bags in and sleep at night, which is really all you will be doing at a hotel in Istanbul!

The 6th floor room was much better. It had a view of the sea over the rooftops. This room was much bigger, newer, and nicer. It had hardwood floors, more closet space, a small refridgerator, a double bed and a twin bed, and a much more updated bathroom with a haridryer. Thank goodness we changed rooms! We were much happier!

The breakfast was good... with an assortment of meats, olives, cheeses, cucumber, fried eggs, bread, cereal, juices, and coffee. It was a good start to the day.

Location- very close to the major sites... across from the Grand Bazaar and Istanbul University, within walking distance (or a couple of tram stops) from Hagia Sophia, Sultan Ahmet Mosque, Basillica Cistern.

The staff held our bags for us on the day of checkout so we could see more of the city before catching our train back to Greece.

Overall, this is a good choice for a budget hotel. Just be aware that there is a big difference between the top floor rooms and the other rooms, so you won't be surprised! We would definately stay here again, and hope to return to this beautiful city soon!

Stayed in hotel Inter for 7 nights with girlfriend. Very clean. Sheets were changed 2-3 times during our stay.. Towels every day. We had a room on 6th floor.. Had a sea view, fridge, air-conditioning, small security safe, TV with 50+channels(inc. NBAtv :-D)
Stuff is very friendly. Some of them are from Balkan, so you can even speak on your language if you come from area of former Yugoslavia..
Located just outside of main tourist area.. Walking distance from Grand Bazar.. Two tram stations from SultanAhmet(Blue Mosque, Taksim, AyaSofia,..) Bus station is very near, too, if you want to go to Taksim(european-like part, good for going out at nights). Just take bug 61B and go to last station..
Tip: use AKBIL(deposit 6YTL) and charge it with credit so you can use any city transportation for privileged prices..

I stayed at the Inter with my mom during six nights, and we both found it a really good deal in terms of price, location, facilities, breakfast, and assistance from staff. They were very efficient and kind in our communication by email prior to our arrival. Shuttle is provided from Ataturk as part of the reservation if you stay more than five nights, but you need to pay for the way back (20 Euros). As most other reviewers, I would strongly recommend Hotel Inter to any one looking for a clean, well-located, and very reasonably priced accommodation in Istambul.

We´ve just come back to Cologne, Germany, having stayed at the
Hotel Inter for three nights. The hotel has everything we require of a budget hotel (we´re not five-star people). We cannot fault the cleanliness or the service. The breakfast was more than adequate. The bar prices are also very reasonable. The staff have had to take some flak in some of the reviews, but everyone was very kind and helpful to us. I ´m aware that particularly Americans expect a cheesy grin everywhere they go, but they should accept that few cultures in Europe can deliver on this.

The location, in a quiet side street, is very convenient for the typical tourist sites ( don´t forget to turn left out of the hotel) We walked everywhere, didn´t even use the tram, but you can buy a token/jeton for €1.30 and get off where you like.
Our room, 603, offers a sea view. The air conditioning was necesssary, even in May.

The pick-up from Atatürk Airport, which is free of charge if you stay at least three nights, worked out very well. We even got a free ride back to the airport as the driver was going there anyway to pick up some new arrivals.

The only possible downside which might occur is that in the building opposite a chimney belches out black smoke for about three to four hours in the evenings. We think it´s for the hot water system. Fortunately for us, the wind was blowing towards the sea, away from the hotel. However, should the wind turn, you´d better make sure that all your windows remain tightly shut. I feel this should not put you off staying at the Inter. I thoroghly recommend it to anyone.

  • Liked — the cleanliness of the rooms and public areas
  • Disliked — the black smoke from the building opposite
