“Not a bad choice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2009

we stayed for 3 nights in February. firstly, the location is good: easy accesible from airport by two trains, Spice and Grand Bazars are close, Sophia and Blue mosque also, food shop (if you like to bring wine or raki bottle at the hotel room relaxing), souvenir and sweet staf shops around, etc. our room was small with windows facing yard with a bad view, but we got silence at night instead and we liked it. bed sheets have been changed daily, I believe. we had visited Cemberlitas hamam which is in a good llocation in 2 train stops, but really to pay 25 Eur was not worth, I know what is a real Turkish bath. but the environment there was not bad, about 400 y.o. by the way, the breakfast was uneatable for us, juice is made from the powder probably.

My friend and I stayed at the Seres hotel early July 08, our first time in Istambul. We chose the Seres hotel for its location (Sirkeci), which worked out much better for us than Sultanamet. Hotel Seres is at the foot of Topkapi, Aya Sofia and the Blue Mosque. It is also extremely close to the Grand Bazaar and the Spice market. Almost directly in front of the hotel is the bridge to cross over to Taksim Square. The hotel is unpretentious but delivers what it advertizes: great location at a great price. Room were clean, spacious and the breakfast room has superb views of Topkapi and the Bosphorus. When booking your room ask for a superior floor (7th floor). Staff was very friendly and helpful. I understand that a hotel might be wonderful for some and so-so for others but if you are looking for a good price/location/value I can only recommend the Seres hotel.

stayed for 3 nights in may, booked by phone. when we arrived we were happy to see that they prepared us a 'deluxe' room although we were paying a standard one. it had a nice view over the Topkapi palace (and over the back of surrounding buildings that weren't in the best shape). the room was large but there was really nothing 'deluxe' inside. found even holes in the bedsheet. i didnt see how the standard rooms where, but i imagine the street-side ones could be noisy. the roof restaurant has a really nice view but the breakfast was bad for the price we were paying.

the location is good, in the historic center, can walk to all sites and there is also the tram that can take you on the other side- easy access to taksim square. not knowing the city i was wondering that beeing close to a train station (sirkeci) would mean not so nice area but all its ok.

overall found it ok but a little overpriced for what you get and really nothig special, also it would be good to improve breakfast.

Stayed at the hotel for 4 nights in August. The location of the hotel was excellent and the staff friendly but the room... there was nothing "elegant or luxurious" in our room. It was clean but much too small for two. Not more than 2 stars! Otherwise the hotel was ok and the restaurant on the top floor very nice - but nothing special in this hotel.

Spent 3 nights in Hotel Seres. Of the standard rooms make sure that you get one with 2 twin beds as these are the larger rooms with a view over the street as is a better view for people watching while the dbl rooms I saw look out over the internal block.
Location is great as itn't in the heart of the tourist area (which in July is just heaving with tourists) but a 10min walk, the location is also walkable for heading over to the area on the North side of the Galata Bridge. We found the rooms to be quite basic for the price of this 3*, the breakfast wasn't anything worth waiting round for either.

Really good value for money. The hotel was very clean, bed linen and towels were changed every day. Rooms were not UK 4 star standard but were clean and comfortable. Good selection of mediterranean foods to choose from for breakfast, something to satisfy everyone. Reception staff all spoke English and were very helpfull. Hotel is centrally located for the Old Town and Bosphorus. If we visit Istanbul again (which we probably will) would certainly stay in this hotel again. Roof terrace bar/restaurant provided some fantastic views of Istanbul. We had breakfast and later, we had a few beers here but did not have dinner ( though I am sure the food would have been good) ......
So many fantastic restaurants close by to choose from.
