“Great Service and Comfortable hotel in a good location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 June 2014

When we arrived, we were welcomed warmly and encouraged to sit on the sofa for some juice and Turkish delights where an employee came and sat with us to review the services/amenities the hotel provided, as well as to discuss our location, attractions close by, transportation, restaurant recommendations, etc in a very friendly and helpful manner. The staff continued to be very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

Our room was comfortable (although we did have to ask for another blanket as the one provided was quite small), clean and had everything we needed.

Breakfast was good (although slightly different than we're used to) with many options including mezes, breads with many spreads, turkish delights, cheeses and meats, vegetables, eggs, a fresh omelette station, coffee, tea, juice, etc. All very good.

The location was great. A few minutes walk to Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace in one direction, Grand Bazaar in another and New Mosque, Sulimaniye Mosque and Spice Market in yet another. All great activities to pass the time in Istanbul!

Also nearby were some good restaurants. We tried Adora Restaurant (try the Tasty Kebap) and Olive Anatolian Rooftop Restaurant which are within a 2 minute walk and both were delicious.

Overall, the hotel was a GREAT choice and I would recommend it to anyone!

We stayed at Sapphire for 6 nights in May. The Sapphire is ideally situated, being only 10 mins walk to most Istanbul's attractions. The street it is located in is car free so luggage needs to be taken from the nearest car street (about 150mts). Now the street is paved with cobblestones and modern wheeled luggage seem designed for smooth airport concourses so having 2 cases each to wheel was a bit of a trial.

This is not a criticism of Sapphire as they have no control of it, but be aware there are many tourist type eating establishments in the street Sapphire is located. You do tend to get fed up with the multiple spruikers who will accost you every time you leave or enter the hotel from mid morning until late at night. They are mostly good natured and will not persist once you firmly decline but it does get a bit wearing especially if you come from a country where this is not common practice.

In comparison with modern purpose built hotels the rooms are not large, but hey who spends more time in their hotel room that they need in a city like Istanbul. One small criticism ... the bathroom in our room was not well lit and a deep sink unit meant you were about 60cms away from the mirror so shaving and applying makeup (my wife, not me) was difficult. The installation of a small convex shaving mirror would greatly assist.

Breakfast selections were I thought adequate rather than outstanding. They seemed to cater for local tastes rather than the European or US tourists who I would think comprise the majority of guests, who tend to start their day with a lighter meal . A larger selection of fruit and some yogurts would I am sure be appreciated by most guests.

I can't write a review without mentioning the staff. All the reception staff were extremely helpful, giving advice on places to go, local restaurants to try and they printed some airport lounge passes for us. A great asset to the hotel.

Overall a very happy stay and have no hesitation in recommending the Sapphire.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the street could be noisy if you are a light sleeper or enjoy an early night.

We were very pleased with our decision to stay at Hotel Sapphire. The location in Sirkeci is hard to beat. We’ve stayed in Sultanahmet previously and enjoyed it, but I thought Sirkeci was even better. Countless restaurants and kebab stands are seconds or minutes away, you’re a short walk from the Sultanahmet attractions in one direction and the Golden Horn in another, and the frenetic, wonderful market streets around the spice market are a short walk away, as well. The tram station is steps away.

Our room was small but not tiny – it was adequately sized given that we didn’t want to hang around the hotel room at all with marvelous Istanbul out there. Everything was clean and orderly, and daily room cleaning service was efficient. The hotel has a lift with enough space to get your stuff in and help you up to the higher floors.

The front desk guys don’t get in your face, but they’re happy to help. We bugged them to help us print our boarding passes for our day trip to Ephesus and before we finally departed, and they always responded “of course” to every request. Every request for information was quickly and pleasantly fulfilled. They were greeting us by name by the second day. We did email them before arriving, asking if they could have an Istanbulkart ready for us upon arrival, and they weren’t able to help with that – a bit of a surprise since the nearby Erboy Hotel does do that for guests – but not a big problem since we easily found a kiosk selling the cards.

Things did get off to a bad start when the free pre-arranged shuttle didn’t show up at the airport. The coordinator was waiting with our name on a sign, but the driver didn’t show, so we spent the first hour of our vacation waiting at the airport. If I hadn’t followed up with the coordinator, I’m sure we’d still be sitting there waiting. And the front desk guys rather laughed it off when we expressed our frustration upon arrival. Later, on the day of our departure, it was hot in the room early, and I noticed they had shut off our ability to turn on the air conditioner.

Overall, this is a good option in Istanbul and a very good value for the money.

The location is excellent, the staff very friendly, and the breakfast is really great. It is in a pedestrian street, nearby restaurants, metro station, and in 10 minutes walking, you get to Santa Sophia, the Egiptian Bazar, and lot of other atracctions.

It even has a swimminhg pool in the basement.

Room Tip: try to get a room that does not look to the street, since the pedestrians can be a little bit noisy.

Great location within easy reach of all the sights in the old city of Istanbul. We were able to walk to all sights. Friendly and helpful staff, organised tours, taxi and recommended local restaurants. Breakfast had vast selection although restaurant only available for breakfast.
Although bathroom was small, it was expected and more than made up by the location on pedestrianised street with quality restaurants next door including Adora and New Hayat.

My wife and I had stayed at the Sapphire before and it was a delight to return. The hotel is centrally located within easy walking distance of the Aya Sofia, Sultanahemt Mosque, Basilica Cistern and the Topkapi Palace. It is situated on a cobblestoned "pedestrian-only" street which leads down to the nearby Egyptian Bazaar, Golden Horn and the Galata Bridge. The hotel is surrounded by reasonable and friendly restaurants offering typical Turkish food.

The hotel is reasonably priced and arranges transfers to and from Ataturk Airport. The service is very friendly and efficient. The pool and sauna provide a pleasant way to relax after a hard days sightseeing!

The service at this hotel was excellent and the staff were very friendly and obliging. I loved the breakfast and looked forward to it every morning. The hotel's location is ideal because it is walking distance from all the main tourist attractions. Topkapi Palace is a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. The Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque are about a 10-15 minute walk away. The walls in this hotel are thin and while the furnishings are tired and the rooms are small, I would definitely stay here again. Bring ear plugs in case your room faces the restaurant area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the restaurants.
