My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our week long trip to Istanbul thanks in large part to the Sapphire hotel. It is situated in the old city and is relatively small as compared to the hotel chains but it is charming, clean, the staff are friendly and breakfast is excellent. The rooms are fairly small but certainly adequate. Being in the old city is a huge advantage since you are in walking distance to all the sights. It is also close to the tram which can take you over to the more modern part of Istanbul. There are also lots of restaurants in the immediate area that were terrific and inexpensive.

The location is great for visiting Istanbul for first time, with most of the touristic objectives in walking distance.
The personnel was helpful and kind and the services were more than good.
The breakfast combined wonderfully local and European foods.

My fiance and I had an excellent 4 night stay at the Hotel Sapphire. It is relatively easy to find if you are arriving in the area via tram. The local shop and restaurant owners are very kind and can help point you in the right direction if you're lost. The hotel is very clean and situated in a perfect location with respect to major historic and cultural sites. The staff is superb! After 11 hours of travel, it was really touching to have such a warm welcome. They told us what we should see in the area, cheaper places to eat outside the tourist zone and how to get around. This was our first hotel we stayed at in Turkey and we enjoyed it very much!

For a tourist class hotel, this place was great. Perfectly located for the sights. Remarkable breakfast, very friendly staff, and even a pool. Rooms clean. good ( and new) beds. Good bathroom - even free stuff !Price was good and they even arranged a couple of transfers for us. MUCH better than we had anticipated. Sourced through through Tripadvisor,so absolutely delighted to recommend to other readers

A quaint, honest hotel with exceptionally kind staff. This was one of my favourite hotels of all time...and I have stayed at 4 Seasons, Le Sport, etc....The location is superb...always felt safe.. The rooms were clean;spotless. Shower was fabulous. Breakfast was incredible, and I am a vegetarian and gluten free...lots of choices. Hotel Sapphire with the location, staff, amazing vibe was definitely a big part of an amazing Istanbul experience!

Room Tip: I believe all rooms are good:)

Location superb for the major sights and local restaurants, you simply couldn't be better placed - when on a short visit you need to be able to get to the sights easily without hassle and from the Sapphire hotel you can walk and be in the hub of the beautiful history in minutes.
The rooms are clean fresh we even had a small sea view - all you need to come back to and relax the air con efficient and quiet but we had the windows open for the breeze which was pleasant and not noisy just the seagulls !
A particular thanks to Dennis and the guys on the desk - the best most helpful welcome we have ever experienced. A full sit down one to one briefing on where to go, and what to do, and how to do it, with map and land mark references ! all enjoyed with a welcome cocktail. So very helpful and again when only visiting for a few days cuts out the bumbling tourist ! Brilliant service.
The breakfast was excellent ,full choices of everything and lots more besides a very classy service the staff always present clearing and changing dishes very well run and again wonderful staff.
If you are going to Istanbul for a few days this really is a fine hotel, brilliant location, excellent ,really excellent staff ( quite frankly major corps could learn a thing here on how to treat customers this place has it so right) superb breakfast and lovely clean rooms- real value for money - what else is there - oh yes a really nice relaxing pool and sauna to chill out in after viewing the sights!

Thank you Sapphire staff a great visit.

The Good -
Hotel located in old city on a pedestrian friendly, no car street w/ lots of eateries and other hotels. The street and surrounding streets are very charming.
Staff - always helpful, especially Hilal (spelling?) who was super sweet and helpful. When we landed he provided us a map and an intro to the city. He did try to push a pricey Bosphrous River tour, but didn't pressure us and that was only time we encountered that.
Breakfast - stayed at three hotels on trip and this one had the biggest spread of any. Interesting and tasty Turkish food. Only downside for me - no real juice - they had this machine that produced watered, artificial tasting juice. Milk - not a criticism, but milk just tastes different there, so my kid wouldn't touch it. Probably a different pasteurization method.
Nearby Sites - Main sites either just under a mile away or just a bit further.
Nearby Tram - about two blocks away you can catch the tram, which takes you to or close to several of the main sites (if you opt not to walk).
Basement Pool - Kinda weird swimming in basement, but did avail ourselves of pool a couple of times. Well heated.

The Not So Great -
Noise - Our room on 6th floor, but facing streets, so got some street noise. Note however we were there for World Cup, and many games started at 11 pm. What are you gonna do?
No Breakfast on Terrace. Many hotels seem to have breakfast on roof terrace or something like that. Breakfast was on lower level - inside. Nice enough setting but would've dug a rooftop terrace for breakfast. By no means a deal breaker.
No Car Access - not a big deal, but for a taxi or shuttle drop-off/pick-up you have to go to the next street up - only just over one block away.

Note - Public Transportation. We forked out $2 USD for every tram ride for each. Later learned you can buy a pass for $5 or so that covers a couple/few days. Ask hotel staff about this. Save $$. We ended up paying at least $30 for trams/busses over five days.

Room Tip: Rooms on Street have a view, but there is probably greater risk of street noise than the back rooms.
