“Perfect gem of a hotel in a great location”
Reviewed 23 July 2010

What a find! Everything you want in a smaller boutique type hotel. Extra-friendly and helpful staff, unbeatable location, everything you need in a room, and even a decent little indoor pool to refresh in after walking through the best parts of old Istanbul. Terrific breakfast buffet is a bonus. Situated on a charming street, minutes from everything but quiet too. Can't wait to return. Only negative is that our hallway could have used new carpets and a bit of paint, but a minor thing.

This hotel did not disappoint. Upon arriving, after our free pick-up from the airport, we received a welcoming drink & a piece of Turkish delight as the staff checked us in & provided us with a map of the city to get us oriented. They could not have been friendlier or more welcoming! We were taken to our room, which had two twin beds instead of one queen (which I had requested via email), but I asked if it were possible to get another room & we were immediately moved without hesitation. The room was clean & nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable, but don't be surprised with the sparse bedding! (This seemed to be the case everywhere we stayed in Turkey, though. I don't think they place emphasis on "luxurious" bedding like we do in the U.S.) The bathroom was great & the shower always had hot water. (The hair dryer was interesting, though. It got so hot that I couldn't finish drying my hair without using a towel to hold it because it was burning my hand!) I also loved how you could open the windows - we slept with them open at night, & it was fairly quiet facing the back of the hotel. The daily call to prayer at about 4:45am was an early wake-up call, but you can always fall back asleep or bring earplugs! And if you have not yet read about the breakfast...wow. We have never seen such a breakfast buffet in our lives! Granted, I still have no idea what some of the items were, but everything we tried was excellent. A great start to each day! And whenever you want Turkish tea throughout the day or after a long day out on the town, just ask. It is complimentary! The location of the hotel was also perfect - you could literally walk everywhere. There is a city rail system that we used once to get to Taksim Square - it is easy to use, but it can get really crowded & it does not seem to have much a/c so we only used it once & preferred to walk everywhere else! The only annoyance about the location is that it is surrounded by restaurants & they are relentless in wanting you to stop in or just take a quick look at the menu. Be polite but firm in your "no thank you" or else you will spend all of your time looking at menus instead of sightseeing! Overall, the price we paid for this hotel compared to the services we received was unbelievable. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute of our stay here, & we cannot wait to return! Istanbul is an amazing city, so enhance your visit by staying at this hotel. We even received a parting gift as we left!

This hotel was a charming little find, tucked away in the centre of it all. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. They did whatever they could to make our stay the best possible. The rooms were clean and well maintained, tea facilities in the room and good air con. The hotel is near all the big attractions like Topkapi Palace, the Bazar and the Blue Mosque. We travelled round Europe and stayed in a few hotels over the last couple of weeks and this was my favourite. For the money, I would definitly recommend it. The breakfast was good. The swimming pool was nice and clean. For the money, you really can't fault this hotel, it has a wonderful atmosphere and I look forward to going back.

We only stayed in Istanbul for two nights as our purpose was to visit Gallipoli and then embark on a Greek Island cruise. On arrival at the hotel, we were greeted with welcome drinks and delicious turkish delight. The front desk went to great lengths to orientate us using a map and answering our many questions. The hotel was spotlessly clean and our room comfortable and nicely furnished. The room was not large because it is an older hotel but we knew this as Engin, from the Sapphire Hotel, made us aware of this when we first asked for a booking. We left for Gallipoli in the early hours of the morning and the front desk staff were very quick to organise breakfast for us and then contact the tour company when it seemed like they were taking a long time to arrive. We did not have much time so we were pleased that the position of the hotel was well situated for sightseeing and train transport. Being near the harbour, it was also easy to access our cruise. The area around the hotel was delightful and we fell in love with Istanbul. We were sorry that our stay was so short and hope to return sometime in the future.

Given that we only had a short time in Istanbul, the hotel was perfectly located centrally to everything we needed to see, and to transport. Located on an exquisite cobbled lane, close to bars and restaurants too, yet not noisy - so we had a great night's sleep. The staff were genuinely, friendly and helpful, breakfast was superb too! The rooms are small, but comfortable and the hotel has a gorgeous indoor pool!!

Our staying at Hotel Sapphire was amazing: the staff is professional, helpful and polite (Ali' at reception, is great)!
The rooms are nice, quite, comfortable and very clean; the hotel is very well located, in the heart of Golden Horn, and close to the public means of transport, so in a perfect location for tourism!
The breakfast is good, rich and various; therefore the hotel is surrounded by excellent restaurants of any sort.
The surrounding area is quite romantic and people you meet over there are lovely and crazy...
