“Great little hotel with friendly service”

If you are after a small quiet hotel with a nice little garden area in Sultanahmet, and firendly service this is a good choice. The staff were helpful ( we asked to change room and they we very accomodating). With a roof terrace looking to the sea and a very good buffet breakfast it's good value.

Hotel Tashkonak felt like our home away from home in Istanbul. The staff, especially, the head concierge, were very friendly and helpful in providing information about tours, directions, restaurants, etc.. The ceilings in the rooms were painted to look like Iznik tiles and our courtyard room was very comfortable. The hotel building is in a largely residential area only a short walk from the city's main attractions (Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, etc) and the Suhltanamet tram stop, as well as many good restaurants and a laundry. Afternoon tea is served in the hotel's lovely courtyard garden, surrounded by fruit trees. The rooftop breakfast room has a great view of the Sea of Marmara. Though we enjoyed the breakfast, since we were staying for a week we would have appreciated more variety.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard garden.

The Tashkonak Hotel is wonderfully positioned to take advantage of the key tourist spots in Sultanhamet. A short walk takes you to the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, the Topkapi Palace and the Archaeological museums. A short walk in the other direction leads you to cheap eateries and more traditional aspects of Istanbul.
The staff at the Tashkonak are, quite simply, wonderful; nothing is too much. The hotel is clean, idiosyncratic and has a rooftop breakfast room and terrace with great views of the Sea of Marmaris.
Our only concern was the size of our room and if we were to book again would ask for a larger one. Other than that we had absolutely no complaints.

Room Tip: I think we had 211: it's small!

Very nice hotel, very kind people. A wonderful start of the day: breakfast on the roof-terrace. And also: a lovely afternoon-tea garden., Just a few minutes walk from the tram, and the city highlights.
We certainly recommend Tashkonak!

Cozy boutique hotel, very family friendly, great location in Istanbul's Old City (5 min walk to the Blue Mosque), nice view from the breakfast terrace. Really good value. Will be back.

The hotel as a perfect location, everything we wanted to see was walking distance. Quiet area, very welcoming and friendly personnel, clean and comfortable. Our trip has been a success and the Tashkonak hotel has been key in this success.

Let's get this out first -- what you read in a certain guidebook about cold or unfriendly staff is either out of date or just wrong. The staff fell all over itself to be helpful. Room was ample size, especially for the Sultanahmet, and beds (where we spent a lot of time) just right. Good buffet breakfast got us out touring as fast as we cared to. And a charming building. Close to Arista Bazaar, train stop, but just out of the way enough to have some peace and quiet in this bustlng town.
