“Great location, great breakfast, wonderful staff”
Reviewed 25 November 2011

First of all, this hotel is all about location, location, location. We were within walking distance of everything we wanted to see. Grand Bazaar, Basilica Sistern, Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Spice Market, waterfront, etc. All within a 15 minute walk, which was important to us.

Secondly, the included breakfast spread was very, very nice. Great quality; lots of fresh eggs, cheeses, pastries, jams, etc.

Last, but certainly not least, the staff was extremely friendly. We had 3 kids with us, and the entire experience could not have been nicer. Incredibly thoughtful, kind people.

The only negative I can think of it that the beds were firm. Some people prefer firm beds. Others do not.

Overall, great experience. Thank you Tashkonak. I recommend this hotel highly and would easily stay here again. Tremendous value / bang for the buck.

very polite staff...very clean room...great position...
an old house of istanbul with no elevator(if it had it would surely ruin the image of the hotel)
with a great view from the breakfast room which was rich in supplies...

without 2nd thought when i wl go again wl be my 1st option to stay!!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Tashkonak hotel for a week in november.
We had booked a taxi transfer with the hotel and this was arranged for us with a professional company.
The hotel staff from the manager, to front desk, to room service, were all really friendly, welcoming and accommodating. We originally booked 3 nights as we were not sure if we were going to stay in Istanbul the whole week, or what we wanted to do, but we ended up staying 8 nights all up, and the staff were really understanding, letting us add on an extra night ect and it was no problem at all. The rooms were cleaned each day with fresh towels.
Breakfast each morning was simple but good. You really dont want a big breakfast as the kebabs you will have later will make up for it.
The hotel is short walk to Blue mosque, Aya Sophia, the palace, and a tram stop (which is only a few stops to the spice market and grand bazzar and the new town so it is a good location).
There are a few nice restaurants near the hotel, such as Tamara, very cheap and yummy.
Overall would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a nice, affordable hotel to stay in while you are doing some sight seeing in Istanbul. Would stay here again!

Really impressed by hotel staff service. Personnel always smiling and friendly. Reception guys are always ready and eager to help - every morning we were coming down and saw 2 or 3 tourists asking questions and receiving explicit information. We have been provided with the free transfer from the airport and a receptionist organized a transfer to the airport for a very good price . We had no problems with computer access and our boarding passes were printed by the hotel. Breakfast - very good , including local specialities and absolutely fantastic apricot jam! Irresistible combination of delicious food and magnificent sea view .

The perfect Istanbul family hotel. Fantastic staff and location. Quiet, clean, warm, rooms. Spectacular view out the breakfast room of the city, ships, harbour, and countryside. Room 307 had the Blue Mosque out the window! In the heart of Old Town and literally two blocks from all the major tourist attractions. Istanbul requires about a week to experience it all and this is the hotel to do it from.

Room Tip: Close to everything we tourists want to see and do and a staff that is very helpful also

Overall an okay hotel. The staff were always eager to help. Our room was really small, and the mattress was more than a little on the hard side. Location was a big plus. But what made this place memorable for us was the view from the breakfast room, which we also took advantage of with a bottle of wine on a couple of evenings. We'd probably try a different hotel if we went back to Istanbul but we enjoyed our time at the Tashkonak.
