We stayed at the Tashkonak hotel for five days. We were a family of four with two young children. Here are the highlights of the best run hotel I have stayed in for a few years.

- despite a 6 hour flight delight that the hotel couldn't have known about, our transfer vehicle and driver were still waiting.
- every single member of staff made our children feel that the hotel was their home.
- a generous family room with fridge and microwave that made it easy to stay there with children.
- delicious, healthy breakfast served on a stunning rooftop terrace, and
- prompt, professional and friendly service for everything from document printing to tour organization.
- did I mention that it is 5 minutes walk from the Blue Mosque?

Outstanding!!

I spent five nights at Tashkonak and it was an amazing experience. After stating at 5 hotels/pansiyons in Turkey over three weeks, I would say that my experience at Tashkonak was the best. The location is really good for visiting the sites and having access to the tram for going farther afield. The rooms were immaculate (even the towels smelled yummy). The staff was professional, courteous and seemed to have an answer for ever question I had (no matter how weird). Breakfast, though standard for Turkey breakfasts, was really good. The quality of food and service was extremely good (not to mention the view). I would definitely stay at Tashkonak again in the future. I am a consultant and stay at a lot of hotels for work and pleasure - Tashkonak is top notch.

Nice little hotel close to the center of Istanbul and the Bosporus (both few minuts walking). Excellent view from the terrace. Very friendly personel (english speaking). Our Room wasnt large, but sufficient and very clean. I can recommend the Hotel and would visit it again.

We stayed in Tashkonak from 11 to 16 Jun 2012 for five nights- for our first trip to Istanbul, with our three young adult children with us. We booked and fully paid for flight/accommodation at an online site. Flight choice was pretty straight forward- hotel accommodation was not so. The online site we used showed up other hotel choices first based on cost- it was mind boggling to say the least. To cut it short, we decided to read reviews in trip advisor - fortunately for us, we made our choice based on the ranking in trip advisor.

We wrote to Tashkonak about our early arrival in the morning at Istanbul and asked for possible early check or at least to keep our luggage first. Very pleased to receive their prompt email response although we did not book with them directly. When we first stepped into Tashkonak, we knew we have made the right choice and was greeted by Hayati at the front desk.

We look for clean, comfortable accommodation, aircon, free wifi, good breakfast spread to start the day, as we would be out for most of the day, but look forward to coming back to rest. We found all these and more at Tashkonak.

Nice, small hotel, suitably located in Sultanahmet district, in quiet residential area, within short walking distances of most attractions - Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia, Topkapi, Hippodrome, Islamic Museum, and tram station. We used the tram for transport to bring us to other attractions around Beyazit (Grand Bazaar, Sulaimaniye mosque, Spice Bazaar, Rustem Pasha mosque), Sirkeci ( Hafiz Mustaffa for desserts), Eminonu ( Galata Bridge for fish sandwiches cooked on boats), Karakoy ( to get to funicular to Istiklal Cadessi, walk to Taksim, and also to Galata tower). Our family of five could not go in a single taxi and we did not want to go in separate taxis (each taxi will only take 4) - besides - the trafffic was quite bad around the old city.

We have always preferred free and easy trips over package tours, as we like the flexibility of arranging our own itinerary, and at our own time. Staying at Tashkonak made this so much easier - during our stay, Hayati at the front desk especially, was a tremendous help for his valuable suggestions and advice that we have managed to cover most of the attractions on our own, and also took up two half-day tours for other attractions.

We wanted to have our first dinner in Istanbul at Akhdeniz Hatay Sofrasi for some of their specialty dishes that took 3 hours to cook - salt baked chicken and salt baked lamb - he not only helped with reservations and ordering in advance when we first checked in the morning, he even took us there personally after his work shift using the tram, showed us how to buy the tokens from the machine, and also walked with us there from Aksaray tram station as the restaurant is not on the usual tourist tracks. Extremely grateful that we could dine within 15 minutes, for what could have been a much longer wait. He even called the restaurant for us as we were late - we could not walk fast enough.

Would we stay again in Tashkonak ? Definite yes from all of us if we are back in Istanbul again. Their staff is their asset - friendly helpful service from the heart, from Hayati at front desk, to the sweet lady at breakfast who cheerfully greets the guests every morning without fail.

We do not know much Turkish but we say Tesukkur Edirim for an thoroughly enjoyable stay in Istanbul.

We just left the Tashkonak yesterday (14 June 2012) after being there for 6 days. This was our 3rd stay at the Tashkonak. Every stay there has been great. The desk staff are extremely knowledgeable of the Istanbul geography and all the wonderful sights that visitors want to see as well as the local restaurants and the tour packages that are available. They are more helpful that the hotel staff at any other hotel we have stayed in around the world. The breakfast is wonderful and the view from the to[p floor breakfast are is great. It is our first hotel choice in Istanbul.

The hotel is conveniently located close to Agia Sofia in a nice Ottoman building. The room was a bit small and loud but proper and clean. The transfer from the airport was very good and efficient. I liked the little garden in the back yard and the terrace for the breakfast ( the food was ok but it can be improved......).

We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed our stay at the hotel very much. The hotel is located in the heart of the historical center so you can walk the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Hippodrome, Topcapi Palace and to the Tram station. Breakfest on the roof-terrace was excellent with a large choice of food and beverages an a great view to the sea. The hotel has an nice little garden where you can have tea in the afternoon. Our room was on the top floor with a view to the sea and to the historic center an it was very spacious (in fact with two connected bedrooms) and nice decorated. The personnel was very friendly and helpful in answering questions and giving advice. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: OUr room on the top floor with view to the sea and the historical center was perfect.
