I spent 4 days in Istanbul at the end of June 2014 with 4 other friends and we were guests at Tashkonak. Everything was great an we plan to get back. They sent somebody to wait for us at the airport, we arrived at the hotel and we checked in in like 20 min. While waiting everybody was very kind to us, they offered us coffee and helped with information we needed. The rooms were cleaned everyday and they took care for us to have fresh water in the fridge every morning. We also enjoyed to have our breakfast every morning in the garden and then having our coffee on the roof terrace. What I can say for sure is that every time I will go to Istanbul Tashkonak is my choice for a hotel. Thank you guys for our time there.

We stayed for 3 nights at the Tashkonak from the 17th of July.We arrived in the morning around 10.30 am,expecting to check in asap as we had a long flight. We were informed that the check in timing was 2 pm ,this was never communicated to us during our correspondences via email. We were also dismayed by the fact that they refused to offer us breakfast though we reached the hotel at 10.30,let alone breakfast, they did not bother to offer even a glass of water/tea until asked for.We were made to wait for close to one hour before we could check in.The rooms are neat and tidy but pretty small especially the bathroom was match box sized. They were aesthetically done up.
Another issue was with the refrigerator,it was out of order. It started functioning after complaining twice the next day. After all this we were skeptical about our stay. The breakfast spread was good. However the subsequent days were ok after considering the first day's experience. The major advantage of this hotel is its proximity to all the major tourist attractions, all of them are walkable, even the Sultanahmet tram station.
Over all we had an average experience,Nothing in particular to highly recommend it.

We stayed at the Tashkonak Hotel at the beginning and end of a 3-week trip to Turkey, 4-5 nights each time. The rooms we had both times were very nice. Service was outstanding: The staff were all very friendly and extremely helpful in providing directions, helping arrange transportation, and giving information generally. The location is great--a quiet neighborhood a short walk from the Hippodrome, Aya Sofya, Topkapi Palace, restaurants, and other sites of interest in the Sultanahmet neighborhood (including a bazaar that's smaller and more pleasant than the Grand Bazaar). Not far from the Grand Bazaar and Suleymanieh Mosque or Eminonu and the ferry docks either. We had a great time and would certainly go back.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the garden are quieter: the hotel is across the street from a mosque. Rooms above the ground floor are quieter, too.

Small rooms, but very helpful staff. Ideal for first time visitors such as us, with most tourist destinations close at hand. Breakfasts were OK. Evidently a place greatly favoured by German visitors at the time of our trip.

I stayed at the Tashkonak Hotel for the second time this June, and the staff was as friendly and helpful as I remembered them from 2009. Some rooms have lovely Ottoman painting on the ceiling, and all have TV and phones and AC. The breakfast buffet was very good, and seemed to have more dishes than I remembered from my first visit. The rooms were very clean , and the showers have been updated since my last visit.
I was a bit disappointed to find that breakfast is no longer served on the rooftop terrace, but in a new breakfast room on. the first floor which displaces the former garden, which had been a lovely shady place to hang out. Oh, well- if you can afford to rent the rooftop suite which displaces the previous breakfast area, you will not be disappointed. My friends stayed there, and it's marvelous!

Room Tip: Choose a room on. the garden side if you like quiet.
