“Friendly, clean and perfectly located!”
Reviewed 18 March 2012

Hanedan is a no-frills hotel but one of the best I've stayed in. We had a warm welcome from Borish and settled well in to our clean, light and comfortable room.
The bed was comfortable- not too soft, not too hard and the sheets were crisp and fresh. Bathroom lovely (although we had a temperamental hot water tap in the shower... either freezing or boiling... or you caught the 30 second switch over when the water was just right!), safe in the wardrobe etc- all the things you'll need. There was also a flashy looking TV in the room, but when you're in a city like Istanbul, who wants to watch TV?!!
The breakfasts were, as I undersatnd it, traditionally Turkish. It was like a buffet of assorted breakfast items, with a few lunch items in there too! Jam, bread, eggs, olives, cheese rolls (homemade) and fresh coffee and juices. It is served from 8am until 11am, so get there not too late to not miss out! The first day we went to breakfast at 10am or so, and there was one bread roll left! The kitchen and dining room area is on the roof, which offers BRILLIANT views one way over the Bospherous (a great view to start the day), and Ayia Sophia the other way. Being on the roof also gives you a great opportunity to take in the higgledy-piggeldy rooflines of this city!
Hanedan is ideally located for all the major sites. After the first day, we walked everywhere... no need to get trams and taxis etc (although public transport is very close and easy to use)- and walking is a great way to see Istanbul!
There's a road next to Hanedan that has an assortment of bars and restaurants, which offer evening excitement if that's what you're looking for. We could hear it going on, but only on the Saturday evening- we stayed Weds-Sun, so it wasn't a big deal to hear noise in a city for one night only.
Hanedan was great and we'd recommend it!
My only suggestion for Hanedan is that the lady who sets up breakfast wear softer soled shoes and her clicking heels walking around woke us every morning at 630! But really, if that and the shower are my only downsides... it means this place is good! Thanks

Spend 3 nights here and will be back for another 3. In my opinion, this is a great mid range accomodation in Sultanahmet. Hagia sophia and the blue mosque is walking distance away. Tram stop is a few minutes away as well.

Now to the room, I booked a single but was given a double upon arrival. It was spotlessly clean with crisp white linen and heating is cracked up high. Ensuite bathroom is again spotlessly clean.

Breakfast is served at the rooftop terrace with view towards the Bhosporous and Hagia sofia and across to the four seasons sultanahmet hotel. Generous choices of bread, egg, yogurt etc. Good filter coffee and tea is served with breakfast.

Barish the gentleman working the front desk during the day is both professional and friendly. There is a laptop available for guests use. Left my shopping there for safe keeping while I enjoy the rest of this wonderful country.

I came here without any plans, Barish put me in touch with Bonita tours next door. They arranged everything for me from accomodation, flights, tours etc. Quality of the tour is pretty good so far, they use reputable travels agency througout the country. I have just finished the cappadocian part of the journey and is glad to report they deliver what they sold you.

For a mid range accomodation in Sultanahmet part of the city, I cannot recommend Hanedan enough based on what I have experienced. A well run and very well maintained property. You cannot go wrong with this place.

Room Tip: No elevator, if you mobility issue, ask for the ground floor room.

It's near Blue Mosque, Ayia Sofia, Top capi. It's only 5-10 minutes walking! It's very sweet, clean, the services are great. You eat your breakfast with the excellent view of Marmara sea!!!!It's really cheap! I loved it!

We had a confirmed reservation with an airport pickup. I had informed them that I would take some time to get a visa so the driver will need to factor that in. Inspite of that, the driver left without me. I waited at the airport with my wife and 5 year old child trying to call these people. Ofcourse, making a phone call from Istanbul is like pulling teeth - you cant use coins - you have to buy a stupid calling card from the post office at the other end of the airport. When the driver showed up after an hour, he was incredibly rude. This person was not an employee of the hotel but that does not help me.
Breakfast at the hotel was very good. Plumbing is messed up - when you are showering, the water varies between cold and hot. Rooms are tiny. Not the best when you are with a child.

I showed up in Istanbul without a reservation. After looking at rooms at two other places, I settled on Hanedan. The employees provided exceptional service, helped call for evening show reservations, lent me a laptop to check email on, and provided a good breakfast buffet.

The location is convenient to tourist restaurants and several main tourist sites, such as Hagia Sophia, Topkapi, Blue Mosque, and the Cisterns. To get to less touristy restaurants requires a bit of a walk or tram ride.

Like most hotels in the area, Hanedan is close to a mosque, so there are early morning wake-up calls to prayer!

I would have stayed at Hanedan on my return trip through Istanbul, but I arrived early, before the front door was unlocked.

I would strongly recommend this hotel for a long weekend stay and to someone who is planning a dynamic holiday. Modest and clean and with remarkable service (Marash, Aeron thank you!)
and beautiful sea view from the breakfast roof terrace. There you will enjoy home made cakes and cheese cookies. Quiet located in the heart of the historic area next to all museums.
