“top boutique hotel in a top location with a friendly staff”
Reviewed 23 October 2012

We stayed as a Family of 4 (with Grandma + Kid) at the Sub Hotel.
It is located close to the Istanbul Modern Museum, just below the Galata Tower in the hip 6 upcoming District of Istanbul. Efe and his Team are extremly helpful with any kind of requests, if you want to get a toch of the Hip Istanbul this is the right place to be! Tea & Coffee and the self baked cookies & cakes from Efe´s Mother will definatly see us back again in Istanbul.
We especially liked the Breakfast and the great variety of local & international Magazines in the Lounge where it always was a pleasure to spend some time with the Staff.

Room Tip: Ask for the family room with the connecting Door if travelling with kids

We stayed this hotel for 4 days. Before all else, they provided us free airport hotel transfer due to booking through their web site. Welcoming was great, when you are trying to find your passport they offer you tea or coffe to have a rest while check-in process. Staff was all genial, they helped us about anything we asked for; they never said "No, we can't". Besides all, the desing of hotel was really amazing. Design was unusual and catchy, really different. There was a fruit bowl on the table which is in the lobby, you can have fruits like you are at home and i think it is really friendly and warm. And also kitchen of hotel was good. I think they are specialized in pasta. Because you just can't stop with a serving. If you visit the hotel, you should try. I think they also use the lobby as café, so you do not have to stay at the hotel for eating that delicious pasta. When we are back in Istanbul, we will visit SuB Hotel again

Room Tip: room number 31... my choice

We spent 7 nights in SuB-hotel. Central located; close to next metro station – good to reach even from the airport; on foot you reach sights; modern interior – hotel and rooms; very nice and helpful staff; family-room: 2 rooms with connecting door – two bathrooms; we had a great time!

Room Tip: Family-Rooms = two rooms with connecting door = perfect!!

For those that only have a few minutes to read reviews, here's the summary: book a room at the SuB Hotel!

It being our first trip to Istanbul, initially we focused on finding a large chain hotel with an outdoor pool. Then we saw SuB Hotel, and decided to take a chance on it, mainly because it was a third of the price of hotels in the area. What a great decision!

The SuB Hotel is a small boutique hotel (<25 units) with a quaint bed-and-breakfast feel. There aren't amenities of a large hotel such as a fitness room or pool, but this is part of the charm. It is extremely well appointed with a unique interior design. The staff are warm and friendly, and always glad to give advice on places to go, tips, and tricks. By the second day, they knew us by name, asked how our shopping day had gone, and even remembered how we liked our breakfast.

The SuB is located on a small street, surrounded by small non-tourist shops and businesses. Centrally located in Karakoy district near the Galata bridge and the Bosphorus river, it is a 15 minute walk to both Istiklal Street (the shopping district) and the old city (Mosques, Grand Bazaar, etc).

My final advice?: Istanbul is a city to see at least once in your life. SuB Hotel was part of the reason it will always be remembered as one of our great trips...

Initially I would like to stress on the welcoming attitude of the staff  which made us feel at ease and provided all the information and guidance to someone who is traveling and unfamiliar with the city

We came across this hotel from the reviews posted yet one thing made us hesitant was that some people stressed that the location is not good but as we came familiarized with the location it was in the center of everything where you would have access to taxis and cheaper means of transportation such as the metro and tram and more convince way we found that there is a mountain train that takes you immediately to istiklal street where all the action is happening

The food was simple yet elegant, they offer a dish of the day for breakfast (which was a new dish everyday) including also good coffee and tea and a selection of jam, honey, pomegranate syrup and small salad

Rooms were clean and made daily

I spent in this lovely hotel 4days in May. Great service, close to the center, amazing bathroom, very very comfy bed :) I was very satisfied. The rooms are not to big but its enough for a couple. The best thing about this hotel is, that there is beautiful mosque within 2min walk so u can wake up hearing the call for prayer and u can go to pray there anytime too ;) For me it was a big plus...

This hotel is perfectly located for exploring both sides of Istanbul. Just 2 mins walk from the tram to Hagia Sofia/Grand Bazaar or Kabataş (ferry to Princes' Islands) and 5-10 mins walk (up hill) to Tunel/Beyoglu/Cihangir (shopping & nightlife). The staff were very friendly and attentive, the rooms clean, modern & fresh. Breakfast was also excellent. Would definitely recommend.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Given the boggling variety of architectural and design styles that crowd the eye in Istanbul, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised to find the industrial-chic SuB Hotel in Karaköy (née Galata), the ancient commercial and cultural core of the city. And yet, let’s be honest: it is a bit of a surprise. SuB Hotel, quirky capitalization and all, looks more like a place you’d find in Greenpoint (Brooklyn) or Neukölnn (Berlin) than in the oldest part of one of history’s great crossroads of civilizations. ... more   less
