“Wonderful hotel”
Reviewed 8 November 2012

The hotel was chic and modern and the staff made us feel very welcome.
For breakfast we could choose what to eat and it was great.
The staff helped us with sightseeing and what ever we needed help with.
We can highly recommend Sub hotel for anyone that wants to stay at a modern, fresh and yet small and cosy hotel.

While I really wanted to love this hotel upon booking it, I walked away with a feeling that it was just average given the value for money. While the rooms were modern, the bathrooms were disproportionately small compared to the size of the room, and I mean ridiculously small (i.e. you have to straddle the toilet to get out of the shower). The wi-fi in the room was spotty and constantly disconnected us and the hotel faced onto a very busy street and a mosque (which has the call to prayers at 6am). There are no extras (fitness room, hammam etc) so it's pretty bare bones. While the breakfasts were good, this place did not merit $200USD per night. I'm sure there are better places to stay with better value for your money.

I stayed at the Sub Hotel Istanbul 4 nights with a friend and immediately felt at home. The location is ideal to discover Istanbul, the rooms small but very pretty and functional, the little restaurant a great place for breakfast and snacks. But the best part is the staff, which is so friendly that you immediately feel at home. Nil took so good care of us and took some extra time to come with us and to make sure we would find the place where we had reservations for a show. THANK YOU NIL!
The only negative thing was the airport shuttle service that we booked through the hotel: much more expensive than a taxi, 20 minutes late and the driver drove like a maniac.

We had a wonderful stay in the new Sub Hotel. The location of the hotel is excellent, in the district of Karakoy between the Galatan bridge and Taksim square. This area is vibrating of new developments, and the mix of old en new, eastern and western world can be fully experienced. The hotel is small and hip, and the rooms are very well done. The lobby feels like a livingroom, and is nice to sit and have a (great) coffee or a chat with other guests. The hotelstaff is very friendly and helpful. They help to make your choice where to go for lunch or dinner and even call if you like to make a reservation. We had a great time.

The design of this impeccable boutique hotel is both uncluttered and imaginative. The rooms are in adequate size, clean, extraordinary design (really!) with thoughtful details and comfortable, and the bathrooms with high-end finishes. We especially liked the coloful walls, each different on every floor, in stark contrast to the black/gray of the urban lobby. An assortment of fruit, meats, cheeses, breads, yogurts, and cereals are served in the stylish but relaxed lobby each morning, and eggs as you wish are made to order. We also frequently ordered cappuccion and lattes, served in the cafe, really yummy.
During our six-night stay, the staff -- and especially the three gentlemen who manned the front desk -- advised us on restaurants, secured our taxis, and answered numerous questions about the city. The entire staff was always welcoming and helpful; they made us feel right at home.
Finally, the hotel is well-located in Karaköy -- an artsy neighborhood across the Golden Horn from the major sites. Cafes, bars, and restaurants are just across the stree, the tram to the Sultanahmet area is only 150 m away, and Taksim and Istiklal Street -- a major pedestrian shopping avenue -- are easily reached on foot. But for a real thrill, take the ferry a stone's throw away from SuB. You will never be the same

SuB Hotel Istanbul is the best hotel for a short (4d) stay in this beautiful and lively city. The rooms are nicely decorated, the beds are very comfortable. Also the nice and warm rainshower was very comforting after a long walk in the city or right after breakfast. Which is outstanding and very varied. And...included in the room rate! On arrival, the room was a little smaller then expected but later on, it met our standards perfectly and it turned out to be a perfect room.
The hotel is located in Beyoglu, a very central and upcoming area in the new part of Istanbul. Between small supermarkets, car part stores and baklava cafe's, you will find new and hip coffee bars, restaurants and cafe's.
The best part about the hotel is the staff. They are very kind. Informal but professional. Young and well spoken English. They also know every hotspot in the city, form touristic to hip spot. And in that way they can advise you more then properly. In the search for a perfect place to stay in Istanbul, SuB is definitely the best!

Room Tip: We have used two rooms. One in back, one in front,. Both were same in quality. All good.

The staff is very friendly and always willing to help you out. If you every go to Istanbul than I definitely recommend this Hotel.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Given the boggling variety of architectural and design styles that crowd the eye in Istanbul, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised to find the industrial-chic SuB Hotel in Karaköy (née Galata), the ancient commercial and cultural core of the city. And yet, let’s be honest: it is a bit of a surprise. SuB Hotel, quirky capitalization and all, looks more like a place you’d find in Greenpoint (Brooklyn) or Neukölnn (Berlin) than in the oldest part of one of history’s great crossroads of civilizations. ... more   less
