“memorable adventure for litlovers”

I read about this museum on Tripadvisor the night before we started our trip to Turkey and could manage to finish the book until our last day in Istanbul. I had the stories and descriptions of the book on the brain all the time and it was a perfect ending to visit this very lovely, intimate museum, which made me feel like I was right there in the book.
If you know the story, take your time in the museum, there are a lot of little items you have to pay attention to.

“Unique and engaging”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2014

Unique is perhaps the most misused and overused word in the English language, but this museum genuinely (another badly abused word) is unique. I was wandering around looking at antique shops in the areaand went to the museum entirely because of the name.

This is a small and intimate place in the midst of a city which is huge and overwhelming. I had never heard of the museum or the book. I had heard of Orhan Pamuk, but just barely.

Pamuk's book, "The Museum of Innocence", is a novel written in the first person by a narrator named Kemal about assembling a collection (museum) of objects that connect him to a time and place, years before, when he had a brief romance with a cousin. The novel begins: "It was the happiest moment of my life, though I didn’t know it.” This physical museum recreates the museum of the novel. Very post-modern. The audio guide, which I recommend reads passages from the book in whatever language you choose.

If all of that appeals to you, you will love the place.

“Even if you are not fond of Pamuk's writing, the historical part will be nice”

The museum did not strike me as anything special as far as the book is concerned. However, I really LOVED the newspapers where I could read the actual news in Istanbul of early-mid 20th century, the old dishes and room settings, the clothes- all those things gave a nice picture of Istanbul as it used to be.

“Gripping”

A museum about the small things in life that connects time between what we consider the huge and important events. Read the book first though.

If you have read the book, this museum is a MUST!!!! Its just amazing what they made here, you feel like you are inside the book. Its so alive, you wonder what is real and what is fiction. And the audioguide is brilliant! I spent more than 3 hours here, and will come again next time Im in istanbul.
