My sister and I stayed at Heirloom Istanbul for our last night in Turkey, and were absolutely enchanted by the place. We would recommend this place to anyone in Istanbul without recommendation, and hope to have a longer stay there the next time we travel to Istanbul.
Dilek is a wonderful host. Even though our stay was brief, we did have time to relax over tea and chat with her about the history of the property, and how she and her brother restored the place. She made us feel very welcome. We really like what she is doing with the place. Dilek has traveled around Turkey, and observed that in a lot of places, the people are giving up traditional crafts and starting more profitable tourism-related businesses. In order to help preserve the unique cultural identities of these different regions of Turkey, the hotel tries to make these crafts profitable for the craftsmen and craftswomen by selling the crafts and sending over proceeds from the sales. I thought that was wonderful!
Our suite was excellent. It was spacious and comfortable. It included a kitchen. While all of the appliances were modern, Dilek and her brother had actually renovated the place with the original materials (floors, wallpaper, etc.), so it retains its original charm. My sister and I loved this place, and we would absolutely stay again!
We stayed six nights in the green one bedroom just one floor up. Room was more beautiful than pictures-- super clean with new arts and crafts style furnishings. Renovations to the antique house are beautifully and tastefully done. Bed was large and mattress was supreme. After a hot day of touring, we loved coming home to our lovely cool apartment and Dilek's friendly, smiling face. We had a wonderful stay in Istanbul and much of it was due to staying at Heirloom Istanbul.

This a great place to stay a few days longer than your standard sightseeing stop. Here you will get the personal touch, friendly hosts and staff, and a generally relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
This suite includes a spacious sitting room and a handy galley kitchen connecting it to the bedroom. The bathroom is split into shower w/ wash hand basin and toilet also w/ wash hand basin, which does help speed things up in the morning
The building has been restored and upgraded to suit its current use by committed owners including an engineer, i.e. the job appears to have been done properly unlike so many others where the upgrade job is barely skin deep. And it's been done in very good taste, I think William Morris would have been impressed.
The building is in a quiet alley whereas the neighbourhood is very handy if you are on holiday as it has many cafes, restaurants, shops... And within tram or even walking distance from the city's main sights.
We are very grateful for the warm and generous hospitality provided by Dilek and her family.

I cannot even imagine what our trip to Istanbul would have been like if we had stayed anywhere else! Heirloom's owner, Dilek, was the most welcoming and hospitable hostess we could have asked for - it felt like we were staying with family! She treated us to coffee and pastries in the ground floor cafe upon arrival, and when I was feeling under the weather, I had a surrogate mother caring for me. :) Her employee Ahmet was just as welcoming, and he was always there to assist us when needed.
My friends and I stayed in Apartment #4 of the building, and it was a great space. Plenty of room for 3 of us (2 beds in a bedroom, and a pullout sofa in the living room), and the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed for our stay. Everything was new and clean, and the space was very charming. It was also nice having the cafe at the bottom of the building, so we could easily enjoy a cup of coffee without going too far.
The Heirloom is in the Taksim neighborhood, which offered lots of things to see and do, and it is very close to public transit so we could easily get to other neighborhoods to see the sites. The building is off the main drag by about a block, so it was quiet at night.
We loved knowing that the building was remodeled using green materials, which seems to be a very new concept in Turkey. I'm sure this build-out will be looked to as an example as the trend takes off in the region.
