The tour of the Chora Church was fantastic. The guide was very well informed. Cihan has acquired a significant knowledge of early Christianity, which was necessary in order to understand the Byzantine mosaics in the church.

Thoughtful, smart, passionate, friendly, witty - and so knowledgeable! Cihan Sevil is now my model of what a tour guide should be. He seemed to know just about everything about Istanbul and Turkish history, and he answered all our questions (we were a group of about 8 people) with patience and panache. Like a great teacher, he left you more interested than you'd been at the start. Also, when you're with him you don't have to wait in long lines (at Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, etc etc.). Can't go wrong with this guy.

We were very fortunate to have Cihan Sevil as a guide for two days in Istanbul. He is incredibly knowledgeable, interesting, full of fascinating information, and able to cater to the needs of a varied group, which, in our case, included some young children. He easily accommodated everyone's needs and preferences. He took us to a wonderful kebab place with panoramic views for lunch. And thanks to him, I scored a gorgeous rug at the Grand Bazaar! I can't imagine how we would have gotten around Istanbul without him.

Cihan led our international group of Comenius teachers through some of the main sites of Istanbul and he amazed us all with his clear explanations and his torough knowledge of the (art) history. A friendly and enthousiastic guide who loves his city and knows where you can find every restroom in Istanbul ;), never a sign of stress and always prepared to adapt the program. We enjoyed our two days together and gladly recommend him.

Cihan Sevil was the tour guide for our group tour in Istanbul. We hired him individually for two days after our group left. He was great. He was willing to take us on public transportation so we could learn how to use the system for the days we were on our own Wherever we went, he was incredibly knowledgable and showed us lots of smaller sights that we never would have known were there. We did the Choro church, avoiding the very touristy restaurant right outside and going to a much more authentic place in the neighborhood. On the way beck, we stopped at a small museum that was not in the guide book but was a real treasure, built in the vaulted rooms under a university specializing in design. And, although we had wandered through the Grand Bazaar in a daze on our own, he told us its fascinating history and took us to tiny shops that made very interesting and unusual things. Ottoman calligraphy painted on diffenbachia leaves? Who could imagine?
The second day, we started with tea and a fabulous view of Taksim Square and surroundings from the top floor of the Burger King- again a definite insider tip. We went to several Sinan Mosques and visited the surrounding neighborhood, which had many traditional Ottoman houses that were being restored. We also got to see a popular Turkish soap opera being filmed in the madressa of the mosque. Once again, a wonderful lunch in a restaurant filled with locals and a visit to a special calligraphy collection in the former Egyptian embassy along the Bosporous. As we learned when we explored Istanbul on our own, we had learned so much about how to navigate the city and the historical and architectural context of the sights we were seeing We are forever grateful to Cihan and recommend him most highly.
