On Istiklal Caddesi between the shops. Galery with contemporary Turkish art. No entrance fee. Quite interesting.

“Great space for art”

The salt Galata project

Just in the middle of the very famous Istiklal street, you will find this art project place. It is very big and spreads on four floors. We saw a few different exhibitions all were interesting. The video exhibition was very good and takes some times to watch.

Worth a visit.

“Brilliant - and free”
Reviewed 14 July 2013

This should be listed as SALT Beyoglu as there's another SALT called SALT Galata which trip advisor hasn't listed and I can't find how to add a listing for it. Find this by the street number 136 as it's not obvious from the street that it's a gallery/museum but it's brilliant inside, provocative and diverse - and free and bigger than you think with a cafe too

“I dare you to find this place”
Reviewed 15 May 2013

The sign on the building is about as small as you can make it and have it still be a sign. But the art contained in this building is big. Once they open their doors at 12 noon it is much easier to find this place. You can walk right past and never even notice the tiny little sign with a typeface that is partly deconstructed. The interior is divided into three large floors with high ceiling, good light, open space that does not get in the way of whatever art they are showing. The facilities are perfect, the bookstore surprisingly stocked, and the staff friendly and helpful. The elevators are fast, very large and floored with marble. Your visit is free. Photography was allowed for the work they were showing recently. If you are into contemporary art and want to see it shown then plan at least 1.5 hours at SALT. That is if you can find the place. Perhaps a slightly larger sign would be a good idea?
