“A Cozy Lovely Apartment in the Old Istanbul”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2014 via mobile

Myself and friends had a wonderful time staying at this cozy and lovely apartment. Hotel location was a bit confused when arrived, however, the hotel team was so helpful showing us the way to sightseeing places, nearby restaurants and supermarkets. The apartment provided everything we needed, comfortable beds, tiny kitchen where we cooked our breakfast and a living room which was also converted to be our bedroom at night time. We loved the fact that a number of Istanbul' top destinations (Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the Grand Barzaar, etc) located within walking distances. Lastly, I really appreciated the kind assistance of the hotel team in spending time to be our translator when we had trouble communicating with the staff of a rental car company who spoke little English whist we could not speak Turkish. Thank you again to Hagia Sophia Apartment team who made our 3 days holiday in Istanbul just comfortable and smooth.

We stayed here on our first trip to Istanbul in summer 2013. Upon arrival Selami the owner gave us very helpful introductory brief that really helped us getting around in such a chaotic town. The apartment was spotlessly clean and everything was as advertised. It was silent at night and it is at the same time strategically placed and a little bit off the beaten path. The roof terrace is quite enjoyable at night. There is a laundry just outside the door and a little supermarket can be reached with a 3 minutes’ walk. The building is always manned and we were always able to ask for advices. Selami was very supportive with the organization of our stay and the subsequent legs of our trip.

Apartment is good, Selami and family are great, very warm welcome with good explanation of ways to go. Very good location for visiting older part of Istanboel. Close to metro, but we walk most to get a good feel for local culture. We surely recommend!

We went with two children (age 3 and 5) for 10 days and stayed in one of Selamis appartments. We had a very pleasant stay. The appartment was very clean, modern equipped (with all options to cook) and in a very good area for tourists. Also it was very authentic, as in the past I usually stayed in private homes and this was the first time I rented an apartment. It felt like living in a real Istanbul home, very homey. Of course it is a little loud in the evenings, but this is the case everywhere in Istanbul. If the windows are closed though, it was calm and quiet, as there aren't many cars driving through, but rather children playing on the streets. And as there is a Air Conditioning, this is probably for many people an option. We rather kept the AC off and the windows open, which also works fine as there are bars in front of them. Maybe higher floors are even quieter.

It was easy to get to many sights on foot or catch the tram to go farther. Selami himself is very nice, helpful and supportive. He lent us a Istanbul card (to get discount on public transportation), advised us on possible trips and gave us whatever we needed in the apartment ( an additional blanket, a tea kettle). I can completely recommend this apartment for families with small kids (as there is even a playground nearby) as well as for anybody else. The only people who might have problems with the area are elderly people who can't handle the narrow streets with cobblestone, but probably they would have problems almost everywhere in Istanbul.

Room Tip: Higher floors might be quieter

Hagia Sophia Apartment is one of the best places to stay intending to explore the essential highlights of Old Istanbul. It is located only 800 m from the Blue Mosque and the nearby church of Hagia Sophia and Top Kapi -The Otoman Sultans Palaces. The apartments (all 6 of them) are meticulously furnished with everything needed to feel really at home. However, your stay is made extremely pleasant by the friendly hosts Selami and Ozcan, who will help with advice and information about anything you would like to know to make your way around. An Easy 10 out of 10 !
