“10/10 for Sultan Mehmed, Istanbul”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014

Mehmet & Ali own and operate the most wonderful hotel right in the heart of Istanbul's old city. They both have well-entrenched roots in the area, so are able to guide their guests to little-known, secret locations, as well as the world-renowned sacred & historical spots, most of which are within walking distance of this lovely hotel.
They are wonderfully-attentive hosts, making sure all guests in the beautiful, nine-room hotel enjoy their stay. The rooms are thoughtfully planned and exceedingly comfortably. There's a lift (hooray!), and the rear garden is a delight for breakfast, drinks, catching-up or planning your adventures.
With past generations of their families being key players in the old city, Mehmet & Ali are fantastic advisers, whether you are interested in shopping for ancient treasures or the latest fashions; bars; historical sites; the best Turkish bath; where to find the best food - from meatballs to Turkish delight; or anything else in Istanbul.
With just a few (delightful) rooms, you need to book early, and Mehmet &/or his staff are swift to respond, helpful and will do everything possible to ensure you make the most of your stay in this fascinating, fabulous city.

Room Tip: Tell Mehmet what you want, he will oblige

The hotel is only a 5 minute walk to the blue mosque. An ideal location. Mehmet and his staff were attentive. Breakfast was amazing. Eggs, fruit, cheese etc- very generous portions. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Highly recommend it. We will stay again for sure.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Sultan Mehmed hotel. It was our first visit to Istanbul and definitely one we will never forget.
The hotel is located very centrally, within walking distance from most of the main highlights in the city. Our room was spacious, comfortable and very clean (we stayed in room 202).
Every morning we enjoyed the delicious breakfast on the terrace outside. Besides fresh fruit, yoghurt, bread, coffee/tea, you are offered eggs freshly made anyway you like and a variety of typical Turkish specialities.
All the staff are very friendly and helpful and we want to give a special THANKS to Mehmed and Ali, our new Turkish friends! :-)
The Sultan Mehmed hotel is a true treasure in the beautiful city of Istanbul!

I don't think I could have found anywhere better to stay in Istanbul. This wonderful small but beautifully formed hotel was, for me, perfect in every way. It is within easy reach of all the sights, shops, bars and restaurants. We were greeted on arrival by Ercan, the receptionist on duty at the time, and the formalities over with, rather than go straight to our room, we chose to sit in the lovely courtyard and have a drink - after Ercan went to the mini market for us as the hotel does not, as yet, have a drinks licence! We were eventually shown to our room which was delightful. Every need was catered for - mini bar (no alcohol), satellite TV, safe, great shower, gorgeous towels and toiletries and even a box of tissues. The beds are comfortable and afforded us a good nights sleep. There is excellent air conditioning - a must if you are there in the summer when it is very hot! We shared a meal with Ercan and Mehmet, the owner, who then took us on a brief guided tour of the Hippodrome, the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia, just to give us a flavour of the place, and all of which are just round the corner. Such service! Complimentary coffee, water, tea, and nibbles are always available in the hotel reception and in the true Turkish way, Mehmet and his staff are always happy to do what they can to make your stay in this amazing city truly memorable. There are some great bars and restaurants nearby, including the delightful Arasta Bazaar - just one street of shops with a large restaurant at the end where you can have anything from a coffee to a full blown meal. The breakfast at the Sultan Mehmed Hotel is typically Turkish and huge, it just keeps on coming, eggs are freshly cooked to your requirements and everything is fresh and delicious. Mehmet is almost always around to ensure his guests have everything they need, and all his staff are helpful and friendly. I just cannot recommend the Sultan Mehmed Hotel highly enough and will most definitely will return next year. All these personal touches are what is best about a small hotel.

We really liked this place. Staff are really friendly and helpful, and they make you feel like at home. The first night we slept in a small room and we were meant to change to a bigger room on the following day but we decided to stay in the small one as it was really nice and cosy, the best thing was the powerful shower! Breakfast also good and abundant, typical turkish!
The location is perfect.

Stumbled upon this hotel by accident. The staff, including Mehmed the young handsome owner, will make you feel like family. They really seem to care about your experience in Istanbul and went out of their way to make sure we were happy. Mehmed even personally walked me to shops and the bazaar introducing me to friends to make sure I got good deals.

The rooms are new so nice and clean although a bit on the small side. The breakfast was delicious and kept me full till dinner. All the main tourist attractions of the old city are within 10 minutes walking distance.

The neighborhood is clean and safe. Overall a great experience, hugged the staff before leaving like family. Thank you for making my Istanbul experience so great!
