“AAA Location, Small but Charming Hotel”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

Yazar Hotel's location is priceless. It's only minutes away (on foot) from all the major attractions. The staff speaks English and all are very courteous, friendly, and helpful. The moment they get your reservation, they'll send you an email, which immediately gives you a real person to deal with and ask questions. Their breakfast was delicious (both my kids found lots of things to eat), and the room was modern, clean, and the beds very comfortable. Hotel is relatively small, and doesn't have a large, fancy lobby, but I highly recommend it to the value-oriented traveller.

The hotel is situated 15 minutes from the major attractions. The walk isn't too bad by foot. The hotel staff charged me ahead of time for the rooms. The hotel manager acknowledged this mistake and offered one free upgrade to a slightly larger room. The beds were comfortable and the room was spacious. However, this hotel lacks in cleanliness. The towels they offered looked a bit dingy with holes and stains. The room was also not cleaned well everyday. The staff was nice and followed up with our requests. All in all, you get what you paid for with this hotel.

Location= great: In the old city but on a quiet little street so sleep quality was pretty good. Around a 10-minute walk to the blue mosque/aya sofya (ask reception for the best directions as we went the long way for the first couple of days). Also near the sea, 5-10 minute walk.

Room= Lacking in places. Firstly I will comment on the bathroom, which was clearly new, well kept and was functioning very well. The bedroom was also pleasant and clean. We were on the third floor and the views from the rooms at the back were amazing. Other people we were on holiday with had a room on the first floor and sadly could not say the same thing. One problem we had was that the air conditioning kept leaking- this became quite a big issue as one of our beds was directly underneath and got wet a few times. We called reception who sent somebody up but he couldn't really speak English so didn't really fix it/do anything. We stayed for 6 days and it leaked 3 times (quite heavily). Another issue I found was that when you left the room all the electrics would be switched off as your key card was needed to activate everything in the room. This was very good on an environmental front, but it was often unpleasant coming into a hot, humid room after being outside all day in the heat and humidity. It wasn't really an issue though. People complaining about the noise- we barely heard any on the third floor. Occasionally we could hear the odd plate banging during breakfast so perhaps this would be quite a strong issue for people on the lower floors.

Breakfast= Remain open-minded! Especially if you're used to beans, toast, eggs, pastries etc for breakfast when you usually travel abroad. I quite enjoyed the experience though. Breakfast staff (the men anyway) were extremely friendly e.g. bringing out extra fruit if we asked for it. Particularly one man whose name I sadly did not ask.

Staff= I think the men were friendlier/more accommodating than the women. One particular man was great who worked around lunch/in the afternoons.

One huge piece of ADVICE- try Esmer Cafe!! A wonderful little cafe down the large hill (you'll see what I mean) towards the sea. Everything cooked fresh, talented chefs, the best staff I came across and the best food we all agreed we'd had during out stay in Istanbul!

Great value for money. Would I return?... I'm undecided!

Room Tip: Third floor at the back- quiet room, good views. (Leaky aircon in one though)

My husband and I was second time and visited Istanbul and this beautiful small hotel that we are lucky that we found him. All who come here will feel the kindness and welcome. The location is ideal if you want to visit the Topkapi or Blue Mosque or go to shopping because it's all just 10-15 minutes away on foot. The rooms are very nice and clean. With a varied breakfast you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Bosphorus. All the staff is helpful.
In November this year we plan to come again and we are happy to see this beautifull place again.
Dear Yazar Hotel wish all the BEST!

Chose this hotel because of price, location and reviews on trip advisor. Like others we were not disappointed, this hotel is in a great location for the old town in Istanbul, walking distance to many major tourist sites. Room was fine, very clean. Breakfast was great, plenty of options. Staff pleasant and helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel to those on a bit of a budget, we were very happy with this hotel for the amount we paid.

I would like to thank all the staff that works at the hotel! You were very nice and helpful!
It was difficult to find the hotel, but after you are there - you are safe, don't need to worry as the location is perfect to those who doesn't like streets full of tourists and cars. It was quiet outside no matter day or night. The metro station Sirkeci is 5 min walk, the Marmara station is 2 min walk and all the other main sight are easy to reach by foot or by public transport.
The only one issue that I had was the room I was given first day. I booked in advance the basement economic room and it was very difficult to sleep at night, because there was a lot of noise heard from inside of the hotel. When I complained in the morning the Manager kindly changed it to the room with window on the upper floor. So, for those who has sensitive ears, cannot breathe the air from conditioner and needs a natural light - DO NOT take the room at basement level and you will be pretty satisfied with the hotel.
The hotel environment is very nice, breakfasts are good!
Dear Yazar Hotel I wish all the best!

My wife and I were at the hotel during late May 2014 . We can understand why it won a Tripadvisor award for 2014:
a] Excellent Location
It is within 15 min walking distance to Topkapi Palace [ & Blue Mosque] . ALSO, v close to Sirkeci Tram station. That makes it convenient to take the tram to Kabatas / funicular to Taksim
Square. Further, location is also waking distance to where you take a Bosphorus Cruise .
[ Tip : avoid Cruises whose prices are in Euros. They are > double the ones in T Lira ]
b] Clean and Bright Room
The photos indicate that this is more a "guest house" than a 5 star hotel.
But room was spacious [ours had 4 beds ] and clean. Size of curtains in photo gives you an idea of the window size . ie : large windows = bright.
Property is < 1 year old , so things were new . Flat TV > 42 inches .
Definitely an excellent guest house , not the hostel type . It has a useful [ small ] lift .

c] Staff were friendly , eg: Mesut, Hilal and owner Muhammed .
Breakfast had good variety , incl local food.
Much appreciated [ in hot weather ] is that water /juice is available in the lobby / breakfast area throughout the day . In fact, they also provide several choices of tea bags free .

For a first time visit to Istanbul, I would say it is good value for money .
