“Delicious soul food along the Marmara Sea”
Reviewed 19 August 2014 via mobile

This cute kitchen is tucked away in the backstreets of the Sultanahmet district. It came to us via recommendations and it most certainly did not disappoint. We sat outside on a warm summers night and the ambience was perfect. The meze was special and my dish (Adana kebap) was cooked to perfection. Chocolate Soufflé for dessert was the perfect end to a wonderful meal and service was with a smile. It was an amazing end to our last night in Istanbul and most definitely the best restaurant experience we had. I would absolutely recommend the Soul Kitchen to anyone visiting Istanbul. A great restaurant, friendly staff and delicious food.

“Great little place”
Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

Tasty food, great service, wonderful atmosphere, a definite must. We just picked this place based on reviews on our first night in Istanbul and were not dissapointed. Highly recommended. Lamb with mimt is delicious and tender and the fish casserole was fantastic, order some extra bread with it so you can dip it in the sauce. Both dishes were recommended by the host Berkan and we weren't dissapointed! The cab sav with the meal was a treat. On enquiring about the fig tree in the garden, the host went down and picked the figs for us as a surprise but apologized that it was dark and he couldn't see the ripest figs so suggested we come back next day for some tea and figs on the house. Figs were perfect. I'd go back again for sure.

“Fantastic service, great food, nice views!”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

I had a wonderful evening at Cheers Soul Kitchen, relaxing with a nice meal and a beer on the terrace with wonderful views. Yes there's some construction going on nearby, but nothing that takes away from a great atmosphere. I had the grilled vegetables with rice and yoghurt, and it was very tasty! A big thank you to Berkan for taking excellent care of me, even offering tea and watermelon dessert on the house, a wonderfully fresh treat on a hot evening. The staff was friendly and service was great! I highly recommend getting off the beaten path and finding little gems like this one, when traveling in Istanbul.

“Vegetarians, look out for this place!!”
Reviewed 16 August 2014 via mobile

So Istanbul had some great food and is clearly proud of its food culture. And the locals and restauranteurs understand vegetarianism but have a degree of contempt for it. We found soul kitchen from trip advisor reviews and we were very happy and would readily recommend it. Particularly if you want a vegetarian selection also.

It is clean, the bathrooms are clean, the dining areas are clean. Nice ambience and music more western and relaxed. Balcony looks out to sea. The decor is comfortable and contemporary in comparison to surrounding restaurants.

Hats off to the owner for politely turning away a group of Americans who wanted to "play some music and drink some beers". The place was very family friendly at the time and that was clearly valued.

Food was very good quality. There's lots of meat and fish on the menu, but a good vegetarian main AND mezze collection. The mixed vegetable grill was fresh simple food with the nicest yoghurt I have had and I'm obsessed with yoghurt at home. Wife had sultan potatoes, delicious but a touch rich. Portions were well sized, not overwhelming.

Starters were quite special too. Lentil kofta and a sautéed spinach dish with fresh flat bread. Cheese with garlic and dill (labne?) and good black olives.

Good tea. Couldn't quite manage dessert, but a little watermelon took the edge off.

Service was super. Friendly and prompt. Bill was cheaper than expected. Overall I struggle to find fault with this place and would readily return.
