The Hotel Peninsula is my favorite hotel in Istanbul. I have several reasons for my opinion. 1) The staff is wonderful. They speak English very well and have always been hospitable and kind. 2) The location is great. It's just behind at the Aya Sofia and within walking distance to everything you want to see in Sultan Ahmet. 3) For this neighborhood and what the hotel gives you, it is an unbeatable price. 4) the breakfast is delicious. Now, if you are looking for a 5 star hotel with a door man than this is not your place. But, if you want a clean comfortable stay in a great location with a wonderful staff then you cannot do better than this. In addition, they can always arrange airport shuttles at a reasonable price. I live in Turkey and have stayed at this hotel with all of my visitors. I have stayed here four times so far and plan on staying many more times in the future. If you have complaints about noise or other discomforts they would be a reflection of the neighborhood or city but not of something the hotel could change.

The hotel is located in a very good place in Istanbul, with a splendid terrace to have breakfast and a good quality-price ratio, But the best thing about it is the really helpful staff, especially Zeki, the young man (almost always) in the reception. The breakfast lady too. Really nice people, an excellent place...

Peninsula hotel has everything: excellent service and great location at an affordable price. We stayed in the top room on the 4th floor. We were surprised to not have any problems with noise despite being below the breakfast terrace and around the corner from the main street full of restaurants/bars. All of the big sites (Tokapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Aya Sofia) are within minutes of the hotel by walk. Reception was always welcoming and very helpful with recommendations on what to see/eat.

We stayed in a double room for 4 nights in mid May. Like other reviews have mentioned, Hotel Peninsula is in a great location for visiting the sites- it is literally a 2 minute walk to the front gate of Topaki Palace! It's so convenient to go back to the hotel to rest after a long day of sightseeing and walking. Our room was clean, comfortable, and sunny--it was a nice place to relax and adjust to jetlag. The terrace where you eat breakfast is lovely with a view of the water.

Like other reviews, I echo the sentiment that the staff is delightful. The front desk is always greeting us with a smile and asking how our days were. The woman who helps to prepare breakfast is so sweet. Every morning when we ate breakfast, people who were checking out that morning would feel compelled to stay goodbye to her (including us!)

Our room faced the front of the hotel, which is on a quiet street; however it is also next to a busy street full of touristy restaurants and bars. On weekend evenings, that busy street is quite loud with music and people, and the noise definitely travel to the room even with our windows closed. We had to sleep with ear plugs. Obviously the noise is not the fault of the hotel- I only mention this for people who are sensitive to noise and who might be staying over a weekend- you might want to request an interior room. The noise was not an issue on Sunday night!

We arranged for airport pick up from the airport but for some reason we didn't find anyone holding a sign with my name when we arrived at the airport after a long trans-Atlantic flight. We ended up taking the metro and tram and walked to the hotel. At check-in, the front desk was surprised to see me because their driver was still waiting for us at the airport! We arranged for airport transfer after our stay at the hotel and we shared a van with another couple. Because the transfer was shared, the front desk gave me some money back, which was unexpected but appreciated.

Hotel Peninsula is the type of place that is ideal for budget travelers who are not looking for a fancy hotel experience but who appreciate the friendliness of a small no frills hotel. Yes, you might hear people in the hallway, but this is not Sheraton-- this is more like a bed and breakfast. No, there are no elevators but if you don't mind walking, these shouldn't be deal breakers. I looked into a lot of hotels in Istanbul before booking this one and honestly this one had the lowest rate for the high season and they still offered the location and services that we were looking for.

This hotel had been recommended to us by our son & his wife who had enjoyed their stay there previously. The location was excellent for all of the historic buildings & monuments in the Old Town. Zeki was most helpful & welcoming on reception & so was Ahmed as well as the lovely lady who served us breakfast. They were all very pleasant & cheerful at all times. Particular thanks to Ahmed who accompanied me on a hospital visit.

Room Tip: Take ear plugs & eye masks as the early morning calls for prayer are deafening & there are n...

My friend, Dollie, and I traveled to Turkey to celebrate our 50th birthdays from May 14-23, 2014. Zeki was fabulous and helped us with sight-seeing plans and restaurant choices. The hotel was clean and tidy and the breakfast was great- fruit, bread and jam, yogurt, etc. Plenty to fuel up for the day's excursions. Zeki assisted us with car and van transport to and from both airports as well as our visit to the Turkish Bathhouse and Bosphorous River trip. We ended up staying at Hotel Peninsula our last night in Turkey instead of at the Ataturk Airport since Zeki had been so good to us. The price was right and we felt comfortable with the transport to the airport so very early on Friday morning for our flights home. The hotel is perfectly located to all of the sites in old Istanbul- the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and Topkapi Palace. Roof terrace overlooking the Sea of Marmara was lovely.

Room Tip: The first four nights in Istanbul, we had a room on the second floor. We had a nice window and look...
