“Warm welcome in Istanbul”
Reviewed 31 May 2009

We really loved the rooftop of the hotel where you can sit whenever you want to enjoy the view. We also liked the good advice we good from Nejdet at the desk who sits there everynight to welcome you back 'home'.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Peninsula in Istanbul in May for about 6 days in total. We had the large double room. The room was very cozy and spacious. It is extremely clean. The shower was awesome. The breakfast was wonderful. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We love the view from the rooftop. The location is so central that is walking distance from everything. We loved Istanbul. We would definitely go back to Hotel Peninsula when we go back to Istanbul. Thank you Hotel Peninsula.

I just returned from Istanbul (mid-May 2009) and had an overnight stay at the Peninsula. I took advantage of their airport pickup for 15 Euro (most hotels charge 25 Euro or it's free if you stay for atleast 3 nights), and their driver was right there to pick me up even though they had garbelled my name on the sign card. The location of the hotel is excellent, just a 5 minute walk down & then up hill to Hagia Sofia, but then again, this neighbourhood is hotel central. They didn't have any single room available (40 Euro) for the date I required, but gave me a double room (i.e. 2 single beds) at the off-season rate of 50 Euro which fit my budget. The room is very clean, comfortable, 2nd hand type of furniture in good condition, decent size for 2 people, though not that big. No special amenities, no tv or phone in the room that I can recall. The bathroom was very clean, a bit worn and the shower stall was very small, but functioned fine. The hotel is really a 5-10 minute walk to all the main attractions, including the lively and cute Akbiyak Cad with its various restaurants. I wasn't too impressed with the hotel terrace (old resin chairs & tables, smaller terrace right at the top with hamacs), the hotel next door has one that is much better and nicer. You can go their for tea (cay) or dinner as they have a roof top restaurant. The breakfast didn't impress me that much as most of it was gone by 8:00 am and they didn't refill, but from what was left, it did seem to be fresh, especially the bread. The staff was very congenial. The one thing I wished they had available was maps of the city. It would be so useful when you've just arrived and trying to place things in a new city. The pamphlets/maps the Tourist Info center uses would be a good idea. You do hear the first call for prayer in the early morning very clearly, but that didn't bother me, and overall the street was pretty quiet. All in all, for my duration of stay it was fine but I realized that there are many hotels in Sultahnamet within this price range, and more towards the 3 star range.

Firstly, thank you for your comments regarding our hotel. We would like to clarify some issues raised though, as we believe not all issues raised were balanced or informed.

Please be informed that Hotel Peninsula is not a 2 star hotel. We are a small boutique hotel located in Sultanahmet.

The customer refers to '2nd hand type furniture' maybe an honest mistake not knowing the difference between that and period vintage pieces suited to the boutique style of this hotel.

Sincerely
Hüseyin Gültekin

We liked this small hotel, located close to all the major tourist attractions of Sultanahmet, with a beautiful terrace with a view over the Bosphorus and Marmara Sea, Hagya Sofia and the Blue Mosque. You can have breakfast on the terrace and even relax on hammocks.
Rooms are a bit small but clean and comfortable.
Yje hotel is at one edge of a quiet street dotted with restaurants and cafes.
The only and unique problem is the voice of the muezzin that will wake you up every day around 4 a.m..

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Peninsula for three nights in April and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The hotel is located in a charming area with cobble stone roads that is close to the main sights such as the Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque. The hotel staff was helpful in giving advice and also arranged return airport transfers at the low cost of 15 try for two of us each way. We booked a room with an ensuite bathroom which was clean and a good size. We very much enjoyed a very tasty and filling breakfast on the terrace of the hotel which was served by Gursel who was the most lovely and warm person we have encountered in all our travels across the world. We learnt a lot about Turkish culture from Gursel and will cherish those mornings we spent chatting over breakfast with him.

We are already thinking about how we can make another trip to Turkey where we would definitely return to Istanbul and stay at the Hotel Peninsula. It certainly was the highlight of our holiday across Turkey and Greece.

Staff is friendly and accommodating. Even got us an extra room on short notice for a really busy weekend. Gursel, who runs the breakfast, really makes the place tops on my list. He always takes time to chat and help with your Turkish words. I can't see ever staying anywhere else.
