“Always excellent value for money.”
Reviewed 16 July 2009

It's the second time I sleep in this hotel. Always excellent place, staff has changed a bit but the new guys are also very polite and friendly. The single room for 40 euros a night is a perfect value for money. Just expect a decent and nice clean place where to sleep, that is what you will get here.

PS : the nice red cat is not here any more, they lost it. But it looks like a new one installed himself at the hotel. I met him several times and he was very kind !

After reading so many good reviews we decided to stay in this hotel. We booked standard double room a month in advance, received several confirmations and were ready to spend an excellent time in this hotel. The transfer from airport was good, but when we arrived in the hotel tired after flight we received the room downstairs with the view at the wall. Staff could explain why we have this room instead standard double. They were just saying that there was a mistake. What mistake can be, if they send us several confirmations??? We spend in this room 1 night, then they gave us our standard double and at last three nights we received big double. But it didn't exсuse the first impression, as we just wanted to receive the room we booked, not to check all rooms they have - downstairs room, standard room and big. Now we real experts in peninsula hotel.

Thank you for your feedback. We must say we are surprised at your review. Please allow us to explain why. Yes it is true we accomodated you in our downstairs double (nicely photographed the following morning after usage) - but only after you amicably agreed. The reason you were given for the roomchange was that a customer fell ill and had not been able to check out of their standard room on time. We next told you we would upgrade you to our seaview large room (not standard as mentioned) - for no extra cost the following night. To which you agreed. Not only that but we also offered to reaccomodate you in the same deluxe room again on your return from Eastern Turkey - for the same standard room price. To which you wholeheartedly agreed. After all this and with yourselves appearing very happy - this does leave us a little saddened because we believe we did our upmost to accomodate you in this instance. We are a small boutique hotel and we do confirm and reconfirm our rooms - if a customer asks for a normal standard room we place them in a normal standard room - our basement rooms need to be specially requested by customers who are looking for even lower prices than our normal rooms. Again thank you for your comments especially towards our cleanliness and value.
Sincerely
Hüseyin Gültekin

We stayed at Hotel Peninsula for 3 nights. The room was basic, but very clean, with an excellent shower, and air conditioning. The hotel serves a delicious Turkish breakfast on the roof terrace, which has views of the Bosphorous. I loved the fresh yoghurt and fruit jams. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. The only real downside of the hotel for us was noise. We had a room facing the street, and there was music and noise from the nearby cafes until about 2am. Of course this wasn't the hotel's fault, but it did impact adversely on our stay as we were trying to get an early start to see the sites before the heat and the crowds. Because of the noise we had to resort to sleeping with the windows closed and the air conditioning on, which also kept us awake as it blasted cold air directly on to the bed. Also, while the bed was comfortable, I would have preferred the option of a sheet, in addition to the Turkish-style bedcover which was supplied.

The location of the hotel is within walking distance to the major sites of Sultanahment - Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica cistern, Grand Bazaar etc. The downside of this is that it is a very touristy area, and we got a bit fed up with being hassled by carpet and restaurant touts every time we left the hotel. We also found we had to go to other parts of town to find places to eat that had authentic Turkish food and didn't overinflate their prices for tourists.

I felt Hotel Peninsula offered reasonable value for money, although elsewhere in Turkey we enjoyed a similar standard of accomodation for about half the price. For some reason a lot of the hotels in Turkey, and particularly Istanbul, price in Euros, rather than Turkish lira, which pushes up the price for those of us with weaker currencies.

I have spent (together with my spouse) 5 days/nights in Hotel Peninsula. It was very cosy, the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfest is tasteful and served on nice terrace with overview of Bosphorus - to see the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque, you have to move one level up. The room was tidy and cosy; it had double bed, ac, nice bathroom with shower and hair dryer. It's all a traveller can desire to have while visitting such a beautiful town. The distance to main touristic attractions (e.g. Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque) is ridiculous - it's a 3 (three) minute walking from the hotel. You cannot imagine a better location. We had a muezin singing just 50 meters from our window, but I guess this just the way it is in muslim countries, although you have to get used to prayer at 4:30 AM :-) Just to sum up: Peninsula Hotel provide us with more then we could think of. I would definitely visit it once again - Jakub A. Sadulski

We stayed at the Peninsula for 2 nights last week and really enjoyed it. The staff are very friendly, the breakfast is a traditional Turkish buffet with a beautiful view of the sea from the rooftop terrace (with hungry cat!), and the rooms are clean and tidy. We stayed in a ground floor room and even though we're two young women travelling, we didn't feel unsafe in any way. The guys at the front desk gave us advice on a few different things, and were always welcoming. We were also able to use their shuttle service to Sabiha Gokcen airport for only 12 Euro each.

All in all I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel. The only reason why we haven't given it a five is because you may still be able to get similar places for a slightly better price, and the rooms are fairly basic (no tv, etc) , but for the price it was more than adequate and the room was by no means a tight squeeze. We are telling family who are visiting Istanbul later this year to stay in this hotel without any hesitation.

The rooms are spacious, very clean, with separate bathroom, A/C and clean crisp linen. Lovely rooftop complete with hammocks and a view over the Sea of Marmara, the Blue
Mosque and Aya Sofya. Whilst there is no bar at the hotel, there is no problem with buying your own drinks and food and taking them up there - the hotel staff were more than happy for us to invite some new-found friends up to share a drink with us.
The staff were nothing short of brilliant - friendly and always helpful....they even taught us the intricacies of how to play backgammon.
The location is only a short walking distance to the major old-city landmarks (Aya Sofya, Blue Mosque, Topkapi, Spice Bazaar, Grand Bazaar, Bosphorous cruises. Hotel Peninsula feels hospitable, safe and comfortable.

We really loved the rooftop of the hotel where you can sit whenever you want to enjoy the view. We also liked the good advice we good from Nejdet at the desk who sits there everynight to welcome you back 'home'.
