We cannot recommend this hotel too highly. It is in a superb location, five minutes walk from main sights and with plenty of good places to eat from budget to indulgent within a couple of minutes walk, in an atmospheric part of town. We were greeted with a drink, made to feel hugely welcome, and the room was lovely - spacious, spotlessly clean and very quiet. We had lots of help with how to get the best out of our stay, the staff were interested and courteous, from the front desk through to cleaning and dining staff, but never intrusive. The view from the roof terrace is stunning, to sit up there as the light fades overlooking the bospherous and the blue mosque whilst evening prayers are called was magical. We would like to thank all the staff again for such a wonderful stay. Thank you!

As quite a few people has mentined the nice breakfast in great rooftop breakfast room/terracce -including the feline friends there, I thought I should mention that during our stay (last week) breakfast was served at "sister hotel" across the street. Appearently because of renovations of Peninsiulas breakfast room.

The breakfast was rather boing - mostly those prepacked little portions of jam, nutella. One morning when we arrived for breakfast shortly before 8:30, they were not even open yet.

In general we were happy at Peninsula, great location, heathing and plenty of warm water. As it is winter, the "wake up call" from the nearby minaret was not until 6:45. We would stay there aain.

Thank you for your appraisals about us. First of all, I would like to apologise for the inconvenience that we caused because of the renovations of the hotel. But you know this kind of renovations is sometimes necessary, so that we tried to do our best to complete this process, but of couese there might be some small unexpected problems. We would like to thank you for all of your understanding on this and hore that we would get chance to guest you here again.

Best Wishes,

We stayed at this hotel based on a Lonely Planet recommendation. The hotel is located just below the Hagia Sofia and is walking distance to both the Hagia and Blue Mosque. Both are visible from the hotel's rooftop as is the Sea of Marmaris and lighthouse.

There is a tram stop behind the Hagia Sofia for access to other parts of the Eastern shore of Istanbul.

We stayed on rooms on the first floor on two separate times during our trip. In the first room, the wooden floor was breaking to the point where it was ready to lose a slat and the toilet flushing mechanism didn't work well. The second room faced the street. You will hear the 6 AM call to prayer from the nearby mosques from everywhere in the hotel. There is no television, so plan on reading or walking the touristy street the hotel is on in the evenings. We spent our nights on the rooftop watching the heavy shipping moving into and out of the Sea of Marmaris despite it being quite cool.

Climate control in the rooms is good. Water pressure and hot water in the showers was good, as well.

Hotel staff are friendly and accommodating.

The Istanbul fish market (which I found very tidy and interesting) is two train stops from the hotel along the shore beneath the hill the hotel rests on.

I would recommend this hotel as a fairly simple accommodation and central point to stay at in Istanbul.

Istanbul seems to be a reasonably expensive place to stay so the Hotel Peninsula at about €25-30 a night was decent value. Compared to other parts of Turkey however it would be overpriced. The breakfast was very nice and roof terrace did have a lovely view of the sea. Overall a relaxed atmosphere. Staff very helpful and knowledgable for booking onward transportation etc. Didnt try pushing any tours/nights out which was nice. However a bit more information about the hotel services and local amenities would have been useful. The rooms were of a decent standard - clean but nothing to get excited about so fine if you are mainly out and about.

Because we stayed there only 1 night, we opted for the small double room (@ 40 euros) - for longer stays, I'd recommend the larger (if you are 2 people, of course) room. The room was basic but comfortable with ample hot water in our en suite bath. Staff were very very friendly & there was free wifi. Breakfast was typically Turkish (Ramazan pite bread was amazing) on its rooftop terrace and our attendant (possibly the owner?) was especially genial - as were his 2 resident cats. The hotel is well situated behind the Blue Mosque in Sultanahmet and is surrounded by lots of restaurants and cafes.

We spent our last two nights in Istanbul at this hotel, and found it was great value for money. The breakfast on the roof-top terrace was great, and the two cute hotel cats proved very entertaining. The free internet access in reception was really useful. Highly recommended

I stayed at Hotel Peninsula for 12 nights in Oct/Nov 2009. It was terrific and I would stay there again. The staff are helpful and are a big plus for the hotel. The rooms are comfortable and cleaned daily. Room decore was average -- it's not a priority for me in budget accommodation. The shower is outstanding: plentiful hot water, strong water pressure and sensible controls. The breakfast is among the best I've experienced in European budget hotels -- the only meat was a nondescript sausage but there were cheeses (nice feta), olives, seasonal fruits & vegetables (pears and grapes some days) creamy yoghurt, hard boiled eggs, nice bread and coffe/tea/juice. It was take-what-you-like rather than a set portion.
