The column is a roman vestige.Very tall but not in very good shape,it is tight belted with iron hoops to avoid its collapse.Nice illuminated in the night.
All in all, interesting mainly by its age rather than its look.

Thank zuv

Worth passing whilst wandering up and down the streets, it's history is interesting, although you would probably just walk past it during the day. But at night, lit up it is worth seeing and photographing

To the reviewer two below: I do not beleive it and on should certainly not. Istanbul boasts a lot of things they even have the sauce pan of Abraham in the Topkapi (yes, they actually do claim this).

Otherwise the column was lucky all along to have been left standing until today and since it is just on the main raod from the hippordom to the grand basar you will most likely pass it anyway but there is no need to plan your trip so just to see it. In the end, is a just a (ancient) burnt column.

This rather ugly column is spectacular at night. It's just outside the Grand Bazaar along Divanyolu Caddesi. It's worth seeing as it has such an interesting history.

Incredible that this monument/obelisk is just at the side of a major road. Believe it or not but the base is supposed to contain Noah's Axe, Mary Magdelen's oil jug and the left over loaves from feeding the 5000. 100m away is the Mausoleum of Ahmet which is free and well worth a visit
