We loved the Anemon Galata. It is a boutique hotel that has been refurbished wonderfully. We asked for a room with a view and were given one that looked out at the Galata Tower and beyond to the Bosphorus. It's not close to the historic areas, except for the Galata Tower, but it's so easy to get around this city that wasn't an issue. Plus, we love the Taksim area.

We stayed in a suite, so the space was generous, with lovely brocade couches and chairs and a nice bathroom. We were on the floor right below the restaurant, but did not have any trouble with noise -- perhaps a chair scraping along the floor every once in a while? The service was also good. One evening we went to a restaurant in Kumkapi - a row/street of all fish restaurants. The hotel arranged for a certain restaurant for us that provided free transportation to and from the hotel. That was really nice considering how much taxis cost in this city!

We stayed in the Galata at both the beginning and the end of our two-week tour of Turkey and on both occasions were assigned the large suite at the front of the hotel.

The reviews you read regarding its ambience, charm and the beatitudes of its restaurant and helpfulness of the staff are accurate; however, if your room like ours faced the street, I would recommend that you take either a strong sedative or inject the best ear plugs you can find before hitting the feathers. The street noise including a pack of dogs who bark incessantly kept us awake most of the nite. If you can, insist on a room at the back but first check to make sure it isn't one of the shoebox sized rooms our friends were subjected to.

We stayed at this gem of a hotel last summer. It has the most magnificient view of "old Instabul" from the 360 rooftop terrace. The service was excellent.

The hotel is situated right across from the Galata tower and the square where locals hang out in the evenings.

Taksim square is a short walking distance away where you can find lots of good restaurants serving local food.

I definitely recommend this place to anyone and would go back there again myself.

This hotel is a real gem. Located just a ten minute walk from Taksim and Istiklal street -- Istanbul's fashionable and frenetic shopping street -- it combines refined comfort with reasonable prices and a friendly staff. I have stayed here more than ten times and have never been disappointed. The highlight is the rooftop terrace which has a 360 degree view of the Istanbul skyline, including the Golden Horn. You will find a mix of tourists and local glitterati hanging out there. Be sure to wake up in time for breakfast.

We spent 5 days at the Anemon Galata and overall we enjoyed our stay there. This boutique hotel has been sympathetically restored in the Italian Art Nouveau style( I think),located next to the Galata Tower and across the Bosphorous from the more touristy Sultanhamet district. Some of the out lying area surrounding the hotel is scuzzy but not dangerous. As a cook I particularily liked this district of Instanbul as the restaurants are superior to those in Sultanhamet. The Sultanhamet area is easily and cheaply reached by cab or as we preferred to walk across the Galata Bridge. We found the hotel service staff to be efficient and professional. Breakfast which is included was good with a selection of Turkish and Continental fare.Housekeeping throughout the hotel was good and for the most time our room was made up in good time ,only late once. The best feature of the Galata Hotel is the roof top restaurant' s magnificent view of Istanbul with its many mosques ,considered to be the best view in Istanbul. Generally a good value elegant little hotel with very nicely appointed furniture, marble and ceilings which attracts Turkish and European business guests. The only complaint of any note was a noise issue, our room was located on the floor just below the roof top restaurant / bar and we would be awakened by the shuffling of furniture etc. at 2 am and at 7 am.

The hotel is in a nice and very convenient location and the restaurant has a wonderful view. The rooms are not big but very nice decorated and not kitch. The stuff was very friendly and helpful. 100 euros a night was the price for double room breakfast and taxes included. Very happy for our choice.

I stayed in this hotel after a not so happy experience in Sultanhamet. I found that this hotel provides better value than most hotels I saw in Sultanhamet. Rooms are very nicely appointed, they have all amenities including slippers and bathrobe, and the breakfast terrace has probably teh best view in Istanbul. Nevertheless, I have mixed feelings about the area. It is central and you can go very easily to Sultanhamet with the tram. It has the advantage of keeping you away from carpets sellers and tourist touts, and it is close to good dining options . However, the area is really shabby - probably not so dangerous, but dirty and rather depressing. If you can put up with that, this is a good option. Just pay attention to the minibar, very expensive, and to the astronomical bill for telephone calls (8 YTL for a call of two minutes to a Turkish mobile phone!).
