Things just went from bad to worse on the 2 nights I stayed at this sorry excuse for a hotel.
Firstly, upon arriving, the triple room, suitable for up to six people (according tot the website) that I had booked turned out to be shoebox of a room, barely big enough for two. And the layout of the room was so bad that it was impossible for 2 normal-sized people to move around without engaging in a complicated pantomime, even standing on the bed. As for organizing your stuff forget about it, there is nowhere to hand anything, especially not in the bathroom, where you end up putting your clothes on the floor--which is a terrible mistake, as the shower leaks beyond anything that can be imagined, turning the bathroom into a lake--oh, and it has a transparent glass door--so forget about any kind of privacy while in the bathroom...
Our room was on the first floor landing, meaning we had all the noise from the hallway, all night long, first from the hotel staff, who did not stop their noise even when we asked them politely, then from customers all night long after. Also, whenever someones flushed a toiled, it was like Niagara Falls being dumped on us. Plus the room was nicely located opposite the common toilet. And when we finally started to nod off, the extremely loud mosques situated near the hotel began their call to prayers. Trust me, even if you are a normal sleeper, you will not get any rest here without heavy duty earplugs!
But this was not the end of our nightmare in this horrible hotel. Upon complaining about the initial room, we were sent to another one on the last floor. Same layout, same terrible design etc., but with the added joy of not having any window...while we were out in town, the staff took the liberty, without consulting us, of moving all our effects to yet a third room. This is where the fun really starts: the power went out from 8PM, which meant no heating as the rooms do not have radiators but air conditioners...it was freezing in there...and they dared to call it an ocean view when all you can see, if you contort yourself, is some ugly cargo ships in the haze of the Bosphorus...hardly very romantic. We were told that power would come back on at 11PM, however we went to sleep and it was still not back on at 9AM, when we decided to leave without even taking breakfast.
That was not a great loss, of course, as the breakfast is the worst I have had in all of Turkey, in hotels of the same price range included: a tired, tasteless piece of rubbery cheese, some cheap spreads, some stale bread and Nescafe...not a single fresh cucumber or tomato as is normal anywhere else, no eggs, no good bread, etc. Pathetic really.
The other point is that the hotel is at the very bottom of a steep hill, and in a neighbourhood where there are only men on the streets after about 5 PM, lots of them drinking and being rowdy...it also gets very empty and quite sinister.
All in all, there are much, much better hotels you can get in Istanbul for the same price, with better comfort, service, and location. I am very sad of how this ruined my stay in Istanbul. This hotel is extremely unprofessional in every way, and should close or the management should change.
I also feel there might be more than just lack of professionalism, as I booked a triple room for up to 6 people, only to be given a totally different room, barely big enough for one. This is puzzling to say the least!
